Tomcat <-> Cocoon <-> JDK Coordination

Is there a process or person that coordinates the individual release source drops of 
Tomcat and Cocoon so that they are compatible with each other 'out of the box', 
including the latest JDK?

I'm getting a directory checksum error un-tarring the jakarta-tomcat-3.2.1
source tarball.  Has anybody else run into this?
