[gentoo-amd64] Re: Problems after upgrading to 4GB Ram

Those are in /var/db/pkg/*, so first thing to do is to umount that partition (you may have to boot the liveCD or something if it's the root partition) and do a proper fsck. Once that's done, try another merge and see if the problem still occurs. If the problem still occurs, backup the dir and try the process of elimination, deleting one category at a time, putting it back (from the backup) if that doesn't solve the problem and trying the next. Once you get a category, try the individual packages, then the individual files. Eventually, you'll probably find one or more that are corrupt. You can try rebuilding the info in them manually if possible, or simply remerge that package to replace the info. If that doesn't help, it's probably time to get the portage devs involved. With the traceback, they should be able to figure out what's going on and tell you where to go from there. Note that as long as your world file is fine and your /etc/make.profile points to your correct profile, the worst that should happen is that you'll need to do an emerge --emptytree, to rebuild the database from scratch. If you have been using FEATURES=buildpkg, you can use emerge --emptytree --packageonly, and be done in an hour or so, using the binary packages you've collected to rebuild your system. If not, it could take awhile, recompiling every package. One more reason I think they should emphasize just how good that feature can be in a pinch, a bit more than they do in the handbook. -- Duncan - List replies preferred. No HTML msgs. [gentoo-amd64] emerge -avD world issues
hi, I have some questions about emerge -avD world: 1.: i have installed the nvidia-driver by hand, not the ebuuilds, because of some GL-issues. How can I update my system without installing nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx? 2.:I am using Gaim 2, so i have added it to /etc/portage/package.keywords, but when i use emerge -avD world, it gets downgraded. how can i stop that? cu and thanks in advance, Dieter -- Frank Castle is dead! The gaim2 betas have been put in package.mask. If you are relly sure you want to use them you have to put them in /etc/portage/package.unmask. [gentoo-amd64] Why can't compiled kernal find eth1?
Greetings: I have an e-Mahines T6420 with a number of issues, but the only serious problem is: The installation kernal finds both eth0 and eth1, but the kernal produced by genkernal only sees eth0. lspci shows both are present. lsmod shows only the eth0 driver is loaded. Am I missing some configuration file? Does anyone have any other ideas? GAG -- gentoo-amd64@gentoo.org mailing list
Re: [gentoo-amd64] Why can't compiled kernal find eth1?
thats one porblem with genkernel, go into ur menconfig and make sure you have either both drivers compiled into your kernel, or as modules. Then u need to nano etc/modules.autoload.d/your.kernel.here this is what mine looks like # /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6: kernel modules to load when system boots.## Note that this file is for 2.6 kernels.## Add the names of modules that you'd like to load when the system# starts into this file, one per line. Comments begin with # and # are ignored. Read man modules.autoload for additional details.#dm-modnvidiantfs#cifssmbfssnd-intel8x0ip_tablesmy driver is compiled inito the kernel, i have a eth1, but dont use it bc nvidia has one in my mobo. hopes this help ya! Re: [gentoo-amd64] 4.1.1 fortran compiler ? Where ?
