Re: [gentoo-amd64] XMMS and Mplayer
Xmms was Hard Masked. It's being removed from the portage tree. Gentoo people suggested to use Audacious instead. 2006/10/24, Mark Haney [EMAIL PROTECTED]: So what's the deal with xmms and mplayer, when I went to update this morning, this is what I get: !!! All ebuilds that could satisfy media-sound/xmms have been masked. !!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request: - media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r16 (masked by: package.mask, ~amd64 keyword) # Diego Pettenò [EMAIL PROTECTED] (23 Oct 2006) # Pending removal 23 November for multiple bugs # Use anything but this, like media-sound/audacious # media-sound/amarok media-sound/mpd media-sound/rythmbox # media-sound/muine media-sound/banshee - media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r14 (masked by: package.mask) - media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r15 (masked by: package.mask) For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook. (dependency required by media-video/mplayer-1.0_pre8 [ebuild]) !!! Problem resolving dependencies for media-video/mplayer !!! Depgraph creation failed. Are the two issues related? Or separate? Re: [gentoo-amd64] suddenly lost sound
Same problem, same chipset. I ran alsaconf, an the sound worked again, but every restart cracks. I get used to turn on my PC and run alsaconf. Rodrigo 2006/8/21, Roman Zilka [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Just adding a me too. Exactly the same situation. Maybe a specific driver/chip bug? - My card is: 00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. (Or maybe some Monday-morning-related bug? :) ) Regards -Roman Could there have been something in the latest round of updates I emerged this morning that caused it? I didn't update all weekend, but I did this morning. I don't remember anything sound related being updated this morning, but then I didn't look that hard at it. At least in my case, no. This has happened to me quite a few times so far during the past one-two months (i.e. since this PC got assembled). I haven't yet discovered any other solution but reboot. -Roman -- gentoo-amd64@gentoo.org mailing list -- gentoo-amd64@gentoo.org mailing list
Re: [gentoo-amd64] Kde problem
Did you check your keyboard configuration on X to see if differs from the console? Rodrigo 2006/8/10, Rafael Barrera Oro [EMAIL PROTECTED]: If i start KDE using xdm (adding it to default run level) i cant login with any user (not even root), but if i use startx as user or as root from a console there is no problem. I am baffled and dont know how to work around it so i seek your help. Thanks for reading Rafael -- gentoo-amd64@gentoo.org mailing list -- gentoo-amd64@gentoo.org mailing list
Re: [gentoo-amd64] nvidia masking help
Well I had this problem when xorg was updated. I just run ran: emerge --nodeps nvidia-glx. It wasn't a pretty solution, but works. Rodrigo 2006/7/26, Steve Herber [EMAIL PROTECTED]: My nvidia based graphics system was working great until the recent X upgrade. During one of my recent package upgrades I ran afoul of the abi problem. And now I can't hit the right combination of masks and package removals to get back to my working state. Could someone tell me which packages I need to mask to restore the last working nvidia based X package set? Thank you. Re: [gentoo-amd64] nvidia X server issue
I'm running a fully ~amd64 environment, using Xorg 7.1 and Nvidia module, but I had to run emerge --nodeps nvidia-kernel nvidia-glx to do so. It works just fine, with direct rendering: yes and everything else, but show me a warning every emerge --deep 2006/6/28, Bo Ørsted Andresen [EMAIL PROTECTED]: On Wednesday 28 June 2006 06:01, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am running modular Xorg, revision 7.1. Re: [gentoo-amd64] Video cards
I have a nvidia fx5200, blender works perfectly. I'm using kernel 2.6.13 with the last driver release. And games work just fine too. 2005/12/13, Michal Žeravík [EMAIL PROTECTED]: only problem i can see in nvidia-driver is power management - suspend doesn't work. michal Zac wrote: I had a nvidia 6600GT that worked flawlessly. I didn't use Blender , but I was able to play Doom3 as well as multiple windows games through Cedega with frame rates comperable to windows (Doom3 actually ran smoother). I had gotten it last December and a bad power supply of mine took it out. I have fallen back to my old ATI Radeon9800pro and now have to boot back to windows to play my games. I think you can get the 6600 online for around $150 these days. -Zac On 12/13/05, Taka John Brunkhorst [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: nvidia is working good for me (fx 5200) -- Int'l Anti-Microsoft Assn.
