We still stay as close to upstream as possible with this stuff and only use it for branding or optional Gentoo-specific minor config changes. Also, it can still be disabled for people who want everything as upstream intended. -- Chris Gianelloni Release Engineering Strategic Lead Alpha/AMD64/x86 Architecture Teams Games Developer/Foundation Trustee Gentoo Foundation signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

[gentoo-dev] Old ebuilds in bugzilla
Hi, I was searching a bit through bugzilla for some ebuilds for programs, that are not yet in portage and I found, there are a lot of programs hanging in buzilla, because no one did take them for maintenance. Now some of them are quite old (no comments/activity for 2 years) and I tried some of them and found out, that sometimes they don't even compile anymore. Now I was wondering, if there is a standard procedure for things like this; I searched the mailing list for sth. like this, but didn't find anything there. So my question is, is there some kind of standard procedure for old ebuilds that lay around bugzilla, and if not, maybe there should be one? I was thinking about something like this: - Categorize ebuild requests, so one category should contain the programs, that aren't developed anymore, one category those, that are still developed, but won't work with a current toolchain/system, and those programs, that will still work with current systems. - Add them to some kind of tracker, so some users that are up to it can try to fix them, and report that, and if it not fixable, resolve the bugs as wontfix. - Maybe make use of the vote system, so bugs with ebuilds, that are quite old and don't have votes, will be closed after something like 2 years with no activity (but that would include to tell users, that they have to vote). Maybe there are better ways handling this. But I think, there is at least a problem with the number of "dead" ebuilds in bugzilla, because I think, that at least those, that will still work should be picked out. [gentoo-dev] Re: Old ebuilds in bugzilla
Raised that a month or two ago here, conclusion: If you find something dead, just ping someone with appropriate rights to wontfix it. When you care about that pkg, either find a maintainer for it or take it up to sunrise overlay yourself. :) Greetz -Jokey signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
[gentoo-dev] Fonts Team Status
After the dev-ercizing yesterday, and after talking it over with the remaining Fonts team members (matsuu & lu_zero), it seems I've inherited the lead position of the Fonts team. This post is an FYI and a Request for Help. All members of the fonts team (including me) are very busy with other projects at this time. If there's anyone out there interested in helping us out, feel free to join. :) Most of the work is basic maintenance, version bumps and stabilizing, though there are a couple bigger bugs that need attention soon. [gentoo-dev] Asterisk 1.4 in Portage
Howdy all, As some people might have noticed, I've wanted to bring Asterisk 1.4 to the tree proper. The big holdup is the zaptel ebuild, which needs to be revamped and brought in as well for the 1.4.x series. I've already rewritten most of it, the only issue is I don't have hardware to test (nor do I want any). So I'd like if someone out there that used/had zaptel hardware would pick up the ebuild. If you're interested, drop me a line. I'll send you over a 1.4.x ebuild. -- Doug Klima Gentoo Developer -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
[gentoo-dev] Git support on cvs.gentoo.org
In a similar vein to my post about Git for overlays.gentoo.org, I'm pleased to announce Git support for cvs.gentoo.org. Like other cvs.gentoo.org services, they are developer-commit only, and are replicated to anoncvs.gentoo.org for anonymous access. If you want a Git repository, please file your request at bug 196025. -- Robin Hugh Johnson Gentoo Linux Developer & Infra Guy E-Mail : [EMAIL PROTECTED] GnuPG FP : 11AC BA4F 4778 E3F6 E4ED F38E B27B 944E 3488 4E85 pgpkw1jHx88eb.pgp Description: PGP signature
[gentoo-dev] Developer testers wanted for Git-support on overlays.gentoo.org
Hi folks, I'm looking for some more testers for something shiny and new: Namely the new Git support for overlay hosting (actually, you can host any Gentoo-related Git repo with it, it'll be the home of Uberlord's new *RC, and PMS ultimately). I already set up the existing folk with Git overlays from overlays.g.o, but I need more testers. For now I'm asking specifically for developers for testing, but those repos will ultimately be open to any authorized committer (eg ciaranm for PMS, uberlord for *RC). Anybody willing to be a tester, please ping me via email or on IRC. (email me if I'm not actually present at IRC when you want me). -- Robin Hugh Johnson Gentoo Linux Developer & Infra Guy E-Mail : [EMAIL PROTECTED] GnuPG FP : 11AC BA4F 4778 E3F6 E4ED F38E B27B 944E 3488 4E85 pgp1PKuX7voTM.pgp Description: PGP signature
