The difference is almost inconsequential in practice. Bugmail will be sent
to both assignee and CC:. Only for maintainers without bugzilla privileges
they need to ping their proxy to make certain updates to the bug.
x11 team has similar instructions in the metadata for their proxy
 maintained package.

Well, I was referring to this exact case as voip team already pointed
they weren't looking to ekiga stuff and, then, didn't had much sense to
me to see bugs assigned to them instead of real maintainer (will commit
access)

Pacho, I have been taking care of ekiga, ptlib and opal. Feel free to make
me the assignee for bugs in those packages.

I should be on metadata for those...

Any news here? I can move that packages to maintainer-needed if you

Regarding the packages that can be moved to maintainer-needed: I think
a good heuristic is if the package has several open bugs with no

   mentioned above.

I'd gladly take maintainership of opal and ekiga, if nobody wants them.

Would be nice as they need a lot of bumps and pending work

Looks like finally you added yourself to metadata but with instructions
to bug-wranglers to CC you and assign to herd. I would like to confirm
this way of assigning things with both as voip herd people didn't touch
ekiga related packages and, also, would be better to clarify things
before me going to their bugs and assigning them properly to comply
current metadatas (as I have seen some ekiga bugs still only assigned to
voip herd without you CCed)

Thanks

The members of the voip team are usually interested in a few specific
   packages only.

Many of the packages which have become unmaintained had a maintainer
once, but these were retired from Gentoo at some point. The package

Does voip herd belong to any project, is there a leader? Can you guys

Yes, that would be the right thing to do as now there are a lot of
