Surely, it's a typo for 'bump'.

As a native speaker, I've never seen it & Dictionary.com doesn't know it.
The OED is the ultimate authority on such matters,
but I don't have free access : perhaps someone else does.

Just checked if it was a typo, but can't be:
git log --oneline --grep bup | count -l
Expected 0 lines, got 1248.
