[gentoo-user] Masking gnome-2.4

Hi!

I have gnome-2.2.2 installed and I don't want gnome-2.4. Every
emerge -p -u world gives me a long list of upgradeable gnome-2.4
packages. It's tiresome to sift through the long list in order to
find non-gnome-2.4 upgradeable packages. Is there an easy way to
mask all gnome-2.4 packages?

Best regards

Ming-Che

i think its /etc/portage/package.mask, list all the builds that
 you

don't want to upgrade there as :
 =gnome-base/libgnome-2.3

And so on, to mask all versions above 2.3

Thank your for your answer! Masking =gnome-base/libgnome-2.4 and
=gnome-base/gnome-2.4 did the trick! :-)

Have you recently upgraded to glibc-2.3.2-r1? Downgrade it to
glibc-2.3.1-r4 should make vmware working again. But be careful if
you have/want to downgrade python as well - it might break emerge.

Unfortunately I don't have more info about it. But maybe you want to
visit http://forums.gentoo.org and search for vmware and glibc. I
found the downgrading tip there.

Have you recently upgraded gcc? Then maybe this bug report at
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15288 is what you are
looking for!

Many programs refuses to run, giving the previous error,
including portage and python... Seems like I would need to
re-install GCC but how can I do this without a working portage?
 bootstrap.sh?

A broken portage can be fixed according to this:
/usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/README.RESCUE
