[gentoo-user] Resume after suspend

2003-10-23 Thread Oliver Bohlen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi!

I'm using the kernel 2.6test8 from kernel.org with apm on my Laptop.
If I have X started I can't resume when suspend is finished. It's working
without X.
Is there any problem with the kernel, apm and X?
Here some informations about my system:

Hardware:
Gericom Webgine XL Force
[EMAIL PROTECTED],4GHz
512 MB of RAM
nVidia GeForce 4 Go (32 MB memory)
BIOS supports APM and ACPI

Software:
Gentoo Linux
Kernel 2.6test8 from kernel.org
apmd-3.0.2-r3

Suspend with ACPI is with echo 3 /proc/acpi/sleep working but I can't
resume. Here it is the same with and without X.
I tried to get help in several other Mailinglists but the problem isn't solved
yet.

Is here anyone who can help me?

Thanks
Olli

[gentoo-user] Waking up a Laptop

2003-10-18 Thread Oliver Bohlen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello List

Did anyone get his/her Notebook sleeping and waking up again? I tried it with
the Kernel 2.6 and ACPI. I get my Gericom Webgine XL Force sleeping but it
isn't waking up correct. The Display ist switching on again but it seems that
the Harddrive isn't switching on. I'm using this command:
echo 3 /proc/acpi/sleep
Has anyone an idea or is it working on anyones Laptop correct? Of course
anyone can poste his/her Kernelconfiguration here.
I'm using the 2.6test7 Kernel. Later I will try the 2.6test8.

thx
Olli

nvidia drivers, and maybe fbcon. I repeate, /NOT/ a issue pty issue. The
  console does not use ptys.

Are you using framebuffer? Try disabling it, or switching to vesa if you
 use riva.

I've tried tu use both framebuffers and it didn't work. With the 2.6er kernel
I have with any Framebuffer no pictzue, so I disabled it. But it is still the
sambe problem, so I think it has nothing to do with the framebuffer.

 3. Is the nvidia-kernel version compatible with your kernel, i.e. are you
on 2.6 and using an nvidia version that is for 2.4?

I'm using the 2.6er Kernel... Where can I download a Version for the 2.6er
kernel or how can I see waht the nvidia-kernel is for? The newest Version is
running without problems with the 2.6er Kernel but there ist still the
problem with the consoles... :-/

Which exact kernel version are you using. Give something similar to
 dev-2.6.0-test3-r2 or mm-2.6.0-test6-r1.

[ebuild R ] sys-kernel/development-sources-2.6.0_beta6

If you don't know exactly what I'm
talking about, what does ls -l /usr/src/linux (without the trailing /)
 give you?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] nvidia-kernel # ls -l /usr/src/linux
lrwxr-xr-x1 root root 18 2003-09-30 18:53 /usr/src/linux -

I was going to offer some input but was also waiting on hearing your kernel
 version...

I hope thats that you want to know...

Hello List

I hava a Gericom Webgine Notebook. Gentoo is running very good on it, only if
I'm starting X and want to switch after it back to the colsoles with
Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 I only get a black screen.
I'm using the 2.6test6 Kernel. I already tested it with the 2.4.20 Kernel but
there it is the same probmem. I have the same problem with Distributions like
SuSE.
The graphic card in the Notebook is a GeForce 4 Go with 32 MB of RAM. If I
plug a Monitor on the Notebook it shows a black screen too.
I tried to change the picturefrequence and the driver from nv to nvidia but
nothing helps.
I switched off the Powermanagement in the BIOS and with the bootparameters
pci=noacpi but it didn't help too. Switching off/on the Framebuffer was
without result too. (The nvidia-Framebuffer-Module isn't working here...)
I didnt find help in the Gentoo-Forum and with Googleing so I hope to get help
here.

This is my XF86config:

 (That's all on one line)
Just comment out, in my case, line 9 of /etc/pam.d/system-auth.

OK, thank you...
What ist with all other entrys in that files. Are they necessary? I doun't
need much security, because my computer is standalone now.
Is pam necessary for the system? If it isn't: How can I delete it securely?

Thanks for the fast answers
