Re: [gentoo-user] [OT] Laptop in Europe
After searching and searching and searching, I finally found one internet cafe in Paris, and it doesn't seem to me that it had laptop stations... just about 100 PCs you could get on the internet with. Haven't been to Rome yet, so I don't know if it's different there... but yeah, Paris didn't seem too well connected.. Amsterdam on the other hand, had quite a few cafes, and my hostel even had wireless internet. I think too all you'll need is the plug convertor... check the AC adapter piece on your cord, should specify if it can handle 50Hz and 220 Volts. // Scott Carmichael - http://jobe.ca/ [EMAIL PROTECTED] said on 08.24.03 at 17:28: Anyone on this list gone to Europe w/ a laptop? Going to Italy and France. I have an IBM T30. I know I'll need a plug adapter, but don't know if I need a voltage converter. I don't think so, but thought I better check. And, if anyone's used an internet cafe in Paris or Rome, charges? Thanks for any information. -- Ed Jabbour -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
Re: [gentoo-user] gthumb issues
I also had nothing but trouble with gthumb, and terrible replyage from the author... So I went to pornview... Despite the name, it's useful. :) // Scott Carmichael - http://jobe.ca/ drewbian said on 08.08.03 at 20:26: Hi, Not exactly a fix but I have found gqview to be a suitable alternative to gthumb. drewbian On Fri, 2003-08-08 at 07:16, Jason A. Re: [gentoo-user] Compiling gentoo-sources-2.4.20-rc5
I'd suggest going with Pentium3(gcc31) until gcc 3.3 becomes standard and unmasked. ;) --- Scott Carmichael http://jobeus.net/ Paulo J. Matos said on 06.06.03 at 09:21: Hi all, Since that in make.conf it is advised not to use pentium-4 because it generates invalid instructions I'd like to know if there is a problem to select in gentoo-sources-2.4.20-rc5 Pentium4(gcc31) as a processor. There is also a line with Pentium4 only (without the gcc31). Which is best and which one should I choose? Yes, I'm using latest gcc from portage. Installing gentoo in my latest laptop :). Re: [gentoo-user] OT: Compaq laptops and Gentoo
Dells can do higher than 1024x768, usually have acceptable support under Linux, and come with either ATI or nVidia cards, both usually supported in X too! :) I'd go with Dell, myself. ;) --- Scott Carmichael http://jobeus.net/ Larry Wright said on 06.06.03 at 09:16: Does anyone have any experience with running Gentoo (or any other distro for that matter) on newer Compaq laptops? I'm eying a replacement for my sucky Toshiba, and these seem to be the only reasonably priced laptops that will do greater than 1024x768. I haven't thoroughly researched though, so if anyone has suggestions, I'm open. I need something I can buy in the us. TIA -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
