Re: [gentoo-user] How can I open my port 80?
Ãyvind, in my country (former soviet republic) all ISPs, but ISPs that provide dial-up, are monopolists. So they can do what they want, because 256 kbit/s is better than 14400 bit/s, so users are glad, and don't resent. It's typical behavior of the former citizens of USSR. PS. The name of my country is Ukraine. You probably never heard about it. It's located between Poland and Russia. Not only u have monopoles, our beast is called Slovak Telecomunist co. It has absolute power/authority protected by law. Doesn't matter our constitution declares democracy and equal rights for everybody. Doesn't matter the owner is Deutche telecom (from Germany). They really can do, what they like to, because they own also complete wired network across the country. No competition = no problem = gold mine ! And therefore we have probably the most expansive Internet in Europe (if I not count Albania). noro PS. I had this problem too.. my ISP was blocking 80 and 8080.. When I called to ask them if they were blocking it on their end they wanted me to buy a static ip.. RCN is my ISP. -- Keith -Original Message- From: Norbert Kamenicky [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 9:30 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [gentoo-user] How can I open my port 80? Is the webserver started and keeps running? run "ps axu" and look for the webserv process. There should be a line like apache2716 0.0 1.6 17656 8508 ?SFeb10 0:01 /usr/sbin/apache2 -k start -D PHP4 When it is running, does it listen on any port? check with "netstat -lnp", that should display a line like tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 1192/apache2 If neither shows your webserver running, have a look at your log-files, /var/log/apache2 when you are running apache. Post results of that research here. Timo -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

There's a chance that your ISP is blocking some or all of your inbound ports. You might try starting other services (sshd, for example) to see if you can connect to that. I don't know about mini_httpd, but many applications can be compiled with tcpd (tcp wrappers), in which case they'll look at /etc/hosts.allow, /etc/hosts.deny (I think) to see who can and cannot connect to that service. [gentoo-user] How can I open my port 80?
Hello. I've just installed mini_httpd web-server on my home computer, and it works, but there is a problem. It doesn't listen either to the 80 or to the 8080 port. (Remote portscanner shows "stealth status"). I've flushed all my firewall rules, stopped unneeded network services, tried to change webserver (tried boa and apache), but my port 80 still isn't opened. Thanks in advance. -- Regards, Nickolay <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
