Has anybody been successful with the update? Should I update? I updated portage and I had some strange errors. After that I updated another package, though I don't remeber which one, and it worked again after that. It was some dependency which I noticed with emerge -pu world, but it wasn't emerged when I only used emerge -u portage. -- Gerhard Gruber Maintainer of SoftICE for Linux - http://pice.sourceforge.net/ Fast application launcher - http://sourceforge.net/projects/launchmenu -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

Re: [gentoo-user] Portage update
One system had no problem - I merged portage, then it gave me strange stuff searching and doing a build but then I reran them and it went away. The other system had problems but I ran python-updater and ldconfig (not in that order) and that fixed it. Anthony Hoppe wrote: Is it safe to update Portage? It failed after updating portage and few other things, after which I did 'ldconfig' like many people suggested and it fixed things. I ran 'update world' again which updated remaining packages. -- - Andrey ~ In theory, practice and theory are the same, but in practice they are different (Larry McVoy) ~ -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

[gentoo-user] Portage update and make.conf
Hi. I just emerged -u portage after the latest sync, and the new make.conf is huge. Among the new stuff was a warning not to use pentium4 as your arch when setting CFLAGS. The new one recommends pentium3. Problem is, my last one had p4, and that's what I compiled the full distro under. My question is: do you think I should recompile everything? Will I have problems if I don't? Also, is the funroll_loops option valid for pentium3? should I unset it? Thanks for the help abilio -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
