[gentoo-user] Re: Firefox won't start

2005-03-30 Thread Grant
I was running 'emerge -Du world' when my Firefox windows closed and
attempts to start it again yielded this:

 system4 ~ # firefox
 No running windows found
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Expected a version 5! Version = 4

System error?:: No such file or directory
 firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (255)

This may have happened during a gtk update. I have tried re-emerging
firefox and restarting the system with no change. What else should I
 try?

 - Grant

Actually it looks like there is a gtk update available this morning so
I'll try that.

Issuing 'mv .mozilla .mozilla_old' fixed this. Please let me know if
you have any tips on getting my settings from .mozilla_old to .mozilla
without also migrating the problem.

Hi Rumen,

I am using a hardened-dev-sources kernel set to medium security and
the hardened flag in make.conf.

Hi Grant,
Still have this problem, in the logs (dmesg) there is one line which tells
that grsec-shared-memory protect option is killing firefox-bin app so it's an
issue with grsec-options (don't know about medium-level options, using a
custom one). Will report If things are fixed by removing this option.
For a day or two using konqueror as i plan to reinstall my system and fixing
FF isn't a priority to me. Check b.g.o and/or hardened-ML
OT here: installed Gentoo (hardened) when 1.4 went out just to test it ;) and
till now have done terrible thing to it (all ~x86, incl. breakmygentoo), last
one was when tried out LIDS, was quite too much (mostly ACL issues and some
old perms problems). System is working but want a clean system with Gentoo.
Besides want to change some basic settings as during my first install choose
defaults. couldn't resist this OT sorry.
