I would just boot the gentoo livecd, run fdisk to change the partitions to the right size, then use resize_reiserfs from the reiserfsprogs package, it's probably the safest... I think using the reiserfsprogs is the safest bet. The procedure is described earlier in this list. I've used qtparted from the System Rescue CD (www.sysresccd.org) to resize both an ext3 and a fat32 partition successfully.
