Why not just try a combination of rxvt, cp, mv, rm and ln. I bet within
2 months you will scoff at graphical WMs!

And, of course, you can run xfce/xfce4 which has an excellent built-in file
manager (xffm).

file manager -- I like gentoo (Not related to the distribution)

On my pvr, I use xterm.  It has no fancy features, but it works
