Actually, your hint about a one-liner command was sufficient for me to find it last night. I had seen fix_libtool_files.sh mentioned previously in context with other packages not being able to build. But I didn't realize that it also applied to flac. FYI, I did search for all occurences of the string flac since March 1st (4500+ messages) in my Gentoo inbox. I got multiple hits, none of which were relavant to my problem, including one poster whose email address includes the string flac. Walter the problem is not isolated to flac.
