You can also setup postfix and dovecot to work with virtual users without a DB .. although it is somewhat harder to maintain IMO. postfix reads textfiles easily ... dovecot is also very flexible ... it all depends on what number of users to provide if a no-DB-setup makes sense. Why do you want to avoid it? Your email suggests you are from germany ... I recommend "Das Postfix-Buch" by Peer Heinlein for a start. Nothing gentoo-specific here ... no reason not to use gentoo as a mailserver (I do that for years, although with mysql). Stefan

The problem is openshot from the sabayon overlay - it depends on python-imaging while everything else depends on pillow. These two things cannot both be installed at the same time. Hard-masking pillow might work, but will probably just cause more and different conflicts. Your only real choices are to uninstall openshot until the sabayon devs fix their ebuild, or to fix the ebuild yourself. But there is no portage magic that can work around these blockers right now. -- Alan McKinnon alan.mckin...@gmail.com

[gentoo-user] Mail System with virtuell User
Hello, has someone run a Mailserver (Postfix) with virtuell User which not use Mysql/Postgresql Database Backen? I has read the Dovecot / Postfix Websites which has Howtos for No Database but so really want not run. The most Howto i found are for Mysql and on Debian. Gentoo is not use as Web/Mailserver? I found only the wiki from Gentoo but is only use with Database. Has someone a config and can shared or know someone a Tutorial which can take as first step to install? Thank you & Greetings Silvio
[gentoo-user] [~amd64] Hint for bonehead systemd users (like me)
I've been struggling with today's update of systemd on ~arch because the ebuild keeps accusing me of using a "compatibility symlink to run systemd" during bootup. Yes, guilty as charged, I told grub2 to use /usr/bin/systemd as 'init', when /usr/bin/systemd has been, until now, a symlink to /usr/lib/systemd/systemd. Yes, I pled guilty to this crime and changed my /boot/grub2/grub.cfg to use /usr/lib/systemd/systemd instead of /usr/bin/systemd -- and yet I got the same condemnation every time I tried to emerge -auND world. An additional glass of chardonnay didn't solve this frustration, so I dared to read the systemd ebuild, which confessed that it reads the value of /proc/1/cmdline to find me guilty and ignores my new /boot/grub2/grup.cfg, which would have proved my innocence. IOW, you must reboot after changing your grub.cfg before the ebuild will withdraw it's accusation. HTH someone avoid the same problem. Cheers :)

The blocker says that dev-python/imaging-1.1.7-r2 and dev-python/pillow-2.0.0-r1 cannot both be installed at the same time (they conflict with each other). It looks like imaging and pillow both satisfy virtual/python-imaging but openshot from sabayon depends on dev-python/imaging (not the virtual), which is what is really causing all the trouble. Normally one would unmerge pillow and merge imaging, but your output shows something is causing pillow to be merged and we can't see what did that. When testing, layout.conf had only a single entry, which was: masters = I remembered an error message from portage a while ago, which suggested setting this to "gentoo" for backward compatibility. I tried that, and the problem went away :) I was able to emerge samba from the overlay successfully. Does this make sense? -- Timur
