The change I made recently that explains the new behaviour is to add "mp" to the /etc/exports entry. I see it works :) -- Regards, Peter.
[gentoo-user] Problem with NFS mounting
Hello list, I use this box as an emerge host for a couple of smaller boxes on the LAN; each of those has a main system and a small rescue system. I've been running with this setup for several years without any real problems. Now, however, something seems to have changed and I get this error when trying to mount either of the two rescue systems via NFS (no problem with the main systems): # mount -t nfs -o rsize=1024,wsize=1024,vers=3 192.168.1.2:/mnt/rescue/usr/portage /mnt/atomresc/usr/portage<< On the emerge host mount.nfs: mounting 192.168.1.2:/mnt/rescue/usr/portage failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory # cat /etc/exports << On the client box /usr/portage 192.168.1.5(rw,no_subtree_check,mp,anonuid=250,anongid=250) /mnt/rescue/usr/portage 192.168.1.5(rw,no_subtree_check,mp,anonuid=250,anongid=250) # ls -ld /mnt/rescue/usr/portage<< On the client box drwxr-xr-x 175 portage portage 4.0K Mar 30 22:15 /mnt/rescue/usr/portage # find /mnt/rescue/usr/portage -type f | wc << On the client box 137415 137415 9254339 # showmount -e << On the client box Export list for serv: << The name of the client box /mnt/rescue/usr/portage 192.168.1.5 << The address of the emerge host /usr/portage192.168.1.5 What else might make the NFS server report nonexistent directory? And what might differ between the main and rescue system on each of two boxes? -- Regards, Peter.

Hmm I'm not sure how ACLs for your user will be managed dynamically without ConsoleKit. Check the link I suggested to see if there is a workaround. Perhaps someone who's managed to get this going without alsa and ConsoleKit can chime in soon. -- Regards, Mick signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Well, the sound quality is very bad with alsa with even cracks when moving mouse or having network traffic. Even more I have a very bad experience with kernel panics when using alsa. On the other hand I always had pretty good sound with oss4 and no stability problems. > > Currently I am trying to compile it from source directly but there is a > > small problem left with kernel 4.16. > Have you had a look at various overlays - not sure which ebuild is the best > to > use for oss. I just started to look into overlays. Currently I use none. One of my main problems here is to see what the overlay is for. I have no systemd, no consolekit and no "desktopenvironment". I use fvwm and lived well with using pulseaudio autostart when using an application that made use of it (cmus). In fact, the pain with systemd on debian brought me to Gentoo. I have a history of over 20 years with debian but the quality is speeding up to decay since the switch to systemd was made. > Have a look here for set up details: > > https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/PulseAudio Thanks, will have a look. > On some PCs I have found bluetooth audio a pain to configure. Most desktop environments pull in the pulseaudio ebuild these days and pa starts up as needed by udev/ConsoleKit when using openrc, or just udev/systemd when using systemd. Have a look here for set up details: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/PulseAudio On some PCs I have found bluetooth audio a pain to configure. I was advised to install net-wireless/blueman, which made it less painful to get bluetooth audio source/sink working in my use case. However, in many cases bluetoothctl is all you need to get the devices to pair and get pulseaudio to pick up the bluetooth device as an audio sink. pactl list sinks and pactl list sources will show you what pulseaudio sees. > I hope, I do not bother you with all that questions coming up moving to > Gentoo...
