Re: [gentoo-user] VMWare Server beta on Gentoo
Hey James,I'm a happy vmware server user on gentoo. But I did try following the guidelines on that url you supplied, and I wasn't able to start vmware.I did found a work around, first emerge vmware-workstation, when that's done untar the vmware-server in /opt. And then run the vmware-install.pl, this will overwrite the vmware-workstation files. And last thing run vmware-config.pl.If everything when according to plan, the vmware-config script will start the vmware service. One more thing I did, was manually remove vmware-workstation from world.GreetsPeter2006/5/21, James Colby [EMAIL PROTECTED]: List members -Does anyone on the list have any experience with installing vmware-server on a gentoo box.I followed the directions found athttp://diaryproducts.net/about/operating_systems/unix/installing_vmware_server_on_gentoo_linux_part_2 but I can't get the vmware service to start.Any help or suggestionsany one might have would be greatly appreciated.Thanks,James--gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list-- I have plenty of common sense, I just choose to ignore it. --- Calvin

The same can be said about Sony MiniDisc, seems to me that all Sony equiment has this protection or whatever they call it. Re: [gentoo-user] computer:///
Hi, there is a way to achieve what you want, if you want links to mounted partitions in 'computer:///' all you have to do is use 'Connect to server' and select Custom Location, then fill in the directory where you've mounted your partition and give a name. Once that's done you will see a link to that partition in 'computer:///' Greetz Peter On 11/9/05, thebase0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: hai, does any body konw how to create links in the 'computer:///' directoryin gnome it shows only File system and Network. i want links for all themounted partitions in the computer:/// directory.i created a link for a directory that points to a partition (ie, i have mounted a partition on that directory),by copying Filesystem.directoryand make modifications to point to my mounted partition and try to copyit again to computer:/// but it shows an error file already existed, and i cant able to copy it. i did all this as root.thanks in advancebye--gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list -- I have plenty of common sense, I just choose to ignore it. --- Calvin

Hi, you can check if the directory containing the file is writable, if it isn't then you can't create a file. Re: [gentoo-user] Dell PowerEdge 800 CERC SATA RAID Controller
Hi, not on PE800 but on PE1300 with scsi disks and no raid controller, the hardest thing to do was getting that poweredge boot off a livecd. It didn't boot with the livecd untill I connected an old ide drive. With that old drive the livecd boot was ok, then checked output of dmesg, and I could use the scsi drives also. And the tape drive even works, after change a scsi bios setting :) I also found that the dell forums had quite a bit info about scsi and raid controllers and how to used them with linux.
