[gentoo-user] genkernel compile only one new module

2012-11-08 Thread ifj. Stefán István

Hello!

I have a quite good kernel, but today I realised that I need a kernel
module that hadn't been compiled before.
Is there any way to compile only that new module, and not compiling the
whole kernel and all of the modules again?

Thanks,
István

Option 1: in a text console, unmerge all blockers, remerge world. Log
in. Share. Enjoy.

Option 2: Upgrade to latest portage, it's masked so you will have to
unmask it first. portage-2.2.0-alpha* deals with that blocker nonsense
automagically. Much less hassle for you.

I've tried option 2, but =portage-2.2.0_alpha38 has missing keyword for
my system (amd64).
It has keywords only for "~sparc-fbsd ~x86-fbsd". I synced the portage
tree today.

Are there some way to install portage-2.2.0_alpha* somehow anyway?

I started to install sandbox, but it seems to hang at this point:

* Configuring sandbox for ABI=default...
 * econf: updating sandbox-1.2.17/config.guess
with /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.guess
 * econf: updating sandbox-1.2.17/config.sub
with /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.sub
../sandbox-1.2.17//configure --prefix=/usr --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu
--mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share
--sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib --libdir=/usr/lib
--build=i686-pc-linux-gnu

At least according to 'top' a 'sed' commands are running for 21minutes, and I
can hardly imagine what it is doing for such a long time.

I also tried to upgrade python with the 'emerge --nodeps -1v python' command,
but it also seems to hang with the sed command.

Any suggestion what should I do?

István

Now I have another problem, when I try to update portage with the emerge

[gentoo-user] PEAR::Net_Socket problem

2007-09-27 Thread Stefán István
Hello!
I try to install the egroupware web application, but for the imap (FeLaMiMail)
support it needs PEAR::Net_Socket php extension. First I had installed is
with portage, but egroupware still complained about it, then I tried to
install it with the pear command, but egroupware still doesn't see it.
Pear says it is installed, so I don't know why egroupware doesn't want to see
it; furthermore, I installed the Auth_SASL php extension too, and that is
visible by Egropuware.

I've made the world update width the hal useflag, but in kde I still can't
activate hal. In the Control Panel -> Peripherials > Storage Media > Advanced
the "Enable HAL backend" is still inactiv and says "No support for HAL on
this system".

I used the emerge -uavDN world command, but it upgraded only one kde package:
kdebase-kioslaves.

I didn't use the "emerge --newuse --deep kde" command you mentioned, because I
installed the kde packages separatly.

What else should I reemerge?

[gentoo-user] notebook lcd resolution problem

2007-07-18 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

I bought an MSI notebook with a 17" LCD display and a GeForce Go 6100 vga
card. My problem is that I can start xorg only in 800x600 or less resolution,
but according to the manual it should operate in 1440x900. Attached you can
see my X config file and the log file. It seems to me that xorg can't detect
the display correctly, but I don't know how to correct it.

Thanks for the help in advance,

[gentoo-user] portage doesn't like whitespaces

2007-07-10 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

I wanted to make a big update on my gentoo system, but I got error when
reaching x11-base/x11-drm-20060608 package. It compiles successfully, but the
installation fails:

>>> Install x11-drm-20060608

For some unknow reason to me, portage wants to create
a
/var/tmp/portage/x11-base/x11-drm-20060608/image//lib/modules/2.6.14-gentoo-r4made

by genkernel/x11-drm directory, with spaces in the dirname, and that doesn't
want do work of course.
The question is that why does it put spaces in the dirname? I made this
"madebygenkernel" label when compiled a kernel to distinguish from the one
compiled by hand, but I didn't use whitespace.

Thanks for the help in advance,

I've emerged automake-1.9.6-r2 and that solved the problem.
But I think that maybe it is a bug in the portage. This package
(gnome-base/gnome-vfs-2.16.3-r1) should be dependent from automake-1.9.6-r2.

I found this in the mentioned file:
* automake *

configure.in:37: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.9.5,
configure.in:37: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.in:37: comes from Automake 1.9.6. You should recreate
configure.in:37: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.

What does this mean? I don't know how to use aclocal.

[gentoo-user] hp dat 72 compression problem

2007-04-10 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

I have problem using our hp dat 72 in our fileserver. I'm not able to put 72
GB of data on the cartridge, though I set the compression to 1 in the
stinit.def file.
Here is the contents of the config file:
# cat /etc/stinit.def
manufacturer=HP model="C7438A" {
scsi2logical=1
mode1 blocksize=512 compression=1
}

Strange that the writing stops at block 90669441 and because one block means
512 bytes, it seems that I can write 90669441*512=46 422 753 792 bytes
(~46.5GB) on the tape, and I thougth that the capacitiy of the tape is either
36 or 72 GB.

Maybe I should play with the density code parameter instead of the
compression, but I don't know what value I sould set. Currently I'm using the
density code 0x47 (TR-5) (this is the default value).

Does anybody know how to set up the drive to be able to write 72GB of data
onto it?

Thanks for the help in advance,

My glib version is 2.8.5, so probably this is the problem.
Can I just simply upgrade it to 2.12.7, and every other already installed
packages will work with it?

[gentoo-user] emerging php with mysql and recode support

2007-01-31 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

I tried to re-emerge php because I need to be compiled with the 'recode' use
flag, but I get this error:

* USE flag 'recode' conflicts with these USE flag(s):
*mysql

* You must disable these conflicting flags before you can emerge this package.
* You can do this by disabling these flags in /etc/portage/package.use:
* =dev-lang/php-5.1.6-r8  -mysql

What shall I do if I need both mysql and recode support in php?

Thanks,
István

No, I didn't use the -o acl option, because the man page of moun doesn't
mention that it can be used with ext3 (only with ext2), but I remounted it
with this option, and now the acl command works well.

Thanks for the reply.
The site you linked contains binary for macos, but I would like to use oo
under Gentoo. My machine is even not a mac, but a pegasos (maybe someone
heard about it :) ).
It is possible that my hardware is weak for compiling oo, because I have only
256M memory.
What is the hardware requirements of the oo compilation?

Hello!
What is the reason of the lack of binary packages of openoffice and firefox
for ppc based machines?
Compiling oo takes a very long time, and on my machine it even ends with a
segmentation fault, so I couldn't install oo at all. In other ppc based
distroes I saw binary oo packages.

Yes, I've read it but my filenames are encoded with iso8859-2 (or at least I
think so), and I dont want to change them to utf-8. At least not yet.

appear on the console screen, when I try to type them.
But in X applications mostly I can use these characters. But if I create a

characters are substituted with an ? sign.
What shall I do to correct these problems?

[gentoo-user] attr vs. gcc

2006-09-20 Thread Stefán István
Hello!
I've tried to install attr-2.4.28-r1 package to a machine, but got the
following error:
g++: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/../../../crti.o: No such file or
directory
g++: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/crtbeginS.o: No such file or

g++: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/crtendS.o: No such file or
directory
g++: /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/../../../crtn.o: No such file or
directory

It's true, because I have 3.3.5 installed. But on another machine, where also
gcc-3.3.5 is installed, the attr compiles succesfully.
So, why does attr search for gcc 3.3.4 on this machine?

Thanks,

Okay, I think I have to use acl. I've read its documentation, and set up the
following acl's:

setfacl -m d:u::rw /home/stefi/kepek/
setfacl -m d:g::rw /home/stefi/kepek/
setfacl -m d:o::r /home/stefi/kepek/

Now, if I create a file in this directory, it's permission will be 664 instead
of the default 644. That's very good.
But if I create a directory it's permissons also will be 664. But I want it to
be 775. How can I achive this?

Thanks,
Istvan

[gentoo-user] permissions for a common folder

2006-09-19 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

We have a file server, and there are a common directory for a group of a
users. I set this common folder's permission to 2775 and that results that a
newly created file or directory will have the same goup owner as the common
dir. But the problem is, that if someone creates a file or a directory in
this common folder, the permissions will be 644 or 755, and so the other
users in the same group can't write that file or directory, only if the
creator of the entry sets it manually to 664 or 775. Is there any way to tell
the Linux to automatically set the rights to 664 or 775 in this common
directory (and only in this)?
This common dir is also shared with samba for the windows users, and in samba
it is possible to set this.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Istvan

Okay, I managed to uncompress it with cabextract, but it does'n contain any

okay. At least it installs and can be executed, I hope it will work correctly
without the autopano-sift package.

[gentoo-user] installing mono

2006-09-05 Thread Stefán István
Hello,

I want to install hugin which depends on mono, and during the installation of
mono-1.1.13.2 I get this error:
** (./class/lib/monolite/mcs.exe:1463): CRITICAL **:
_wapi_shm_semaphores_init: semget error: Nincs hely az eszközön. Try
deleting some semaphores with ipcs and ipcrm

the translation of the hungarian part of the message is: no space left on the
device.

But on what device? I checked the partitions, and they do have a lot of spaces
(~4.5 GB).

What shall I do to be able to install mono?

[gentoo-user] problems using ivman

2006-07-28 Thread Stefán István
Hello!

I have some little problems with ivman, and I hope somebody could help me:
 - It does not creates entries in fstab, so when I put in some device, though
it is mounted it is not shown on kde's desktop.
- The mounted devices only can be unmounted by root, not as simple user. This
is problem when using pendrives for example, because if I write something to
the device I want to unmount it before plug it out to avoid data loss.

Thanks for the helps in advance,

Thanks to your suggestion, fglrx driver works now in 2D
But with 3D I still have problems.
When I try to start glxinfo, it says:
Extension "GLX" missing.

And I found this in the log file:

Well, first I tried to install xorg simply by the "emerge xorg-x11" command.
It installed the newest 7.x version, but it doesn't want to work. Then I
unmerged it and installed the 6.8.2-r8. It works now with the vesa driver,
but not with fgrlx.
So, now I don't have xorg-server package installed (because it is part of the
7.x version), only xorg-x11:
# emerge -pv =xorg-x11-6.8.2-r8

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Yes, it is loaded, or at least it is specified in the xorg.conf file.

Anyway, it is the newest portage, I installed Gentoo today on this laptop.
How can I find out which ati-drivers good for which kernel?

Thanks:

What kind of chipset does your motherboard use?
You can check it with the lspci command. Maybe you have to load a kernel
module for that chipset...

[gentoo-user] Too much connection?

2006-06-01 Thread Stefán István
Hello List,

we have a problem that sometimes arises on the clients:
using kde, and sometimes the background and the icons from the desktop
dissappears. But otherwise the client works well, programs can be started. If
they log off and log in again, the backgrounds and the icons appeares again.

I thought that maybe too much programs are running at the same time. If I fire
the command netstat|grep 6000|wc -l on the server, I get the number 206.
Maybe thats too much connection?

[gentoo-user] switch port identification

2006-05-30 Thread Stefán István
Hello List!

We have a small network with two 24 port switches. We assign ip address to
clients by dhcp based on the clients mac address, and have a pool of
addresses for guest notebooks. My problem is that if someone plugs a notebook
into the network and gets an ip then I can't find out the location of the
machine. Is it possible to get the information that in which port of the
switch is the notebook connected to?

Now it works. I unmerged everything related to sane, then reemerged them, and
now it works. Strange but true...

[gentoo-user] can't use usb scanner

2006-05-25 Thread Stefán István
Hello!
I have a Canon usb scanner and I have problem using it with xsane.
The sane-find-scanner finds it:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x220e [CanoScan],
chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:003:004

But "scainmage -L" doesn't find it.

I don't know what to do next.
If I just simply start xsane, it says that no devices available. I think I
have to specify the device name of the scanner, but I don't know what it's
name.

[gentoo-user] Adaptec 1420SA

2006-04-14 Thread Stefán István
Hello!
Does somebody have any experience with $SUBJECT?

I bought this card and downloaded the driver from Adaptec website. I tried to
merge it into my kernel tree, but during the merge I got error message:

# ./Build ../driver-aar81xx/ ../shipped-binary ../../linux-2.6.15-gentoo-r1
merge_driver=Yes
blist=NULL, build job terminated .

Okay, I tried another way:
./Build ../driver-aar81xx/ ../shipped-binary ../../linux-2.6.15-gentoo-r1
merge_driver=Yes blist+=i386
cp: cannot stat
`/usr/src/adaptec/shipped-binary/host_raid.o.aar81xx.AuthenticAMD.3.3.5-20050130':

No such file or directory
subdir-$(CONFIG_SCSI_AAR81XX) += aar81xx
Please remember to run make menuconfig and hand pick
AAR81XX
 in device drivers/scsi/low level drivers.
Attention Fedora 3 users:
 If you plan to build kernel image based on configs/kernel-2.6.9-ix86*.config
 then you need to do this:
cp /usr/src/adaptec/shipped_modules/host_raid.o.adpsata.ix86.3.4.2
/usr/src/linux-2.6.9-1.667/drivers/scsi/adpsata/host_raid.o_shipped
.

I still got error during the merge, but the driver source merged into the
kernel.
Then I tried to compile the new kernel module, but I got this error:

make[3]: *** No rule to make target `drivers/scsi/aar81xx/host_raid.s', needed
by `drivers/scsi/aar81xx/host_raid.o'.  Stop.
make[2]: *** [drivers/scsi/aar81xx] Error 2
make[1]: *** [drivers/scsi] Error 2
make: *** [drivers] Error 2

I'm using kernel 2.6.15-gentoo-r1.

What did I wrong?

Thank you for your help in advance,

Yes, I use these settings.

Yes. But tried also with the analog output.

Okay, I paste the relevant lines from my config file:

The error it produces is a blank screen. If I push ctrl++ then I can switch to
lower resolution (800x600) and it is displayed. But switching to 1024x768 and
1280x1024 results a blank screen.

[gentoo-user] LG L1730P in 1280x1024

2006-03-22 Thread Stefán István
Hello List!
Please somebody help me to set up my monitor to 1280x1024 resolution!
I bought an LG L1730P lcd monitor and I can only use it in 800x600 resolution.
I'm using xorg.conf file that was created with the X -configure command.
I tried to boot with knoppix, it starts X in 1024x768. Then I tried to copy
from it's XF86Config4 file the resolution related lines to Gentoo, but in
Gentoo the same settings doesn't work.

Thank you,
Istvan Stefan

[gentoo-user] automatic script start during login/out from kde

2006-03-20 Thread Stefán István
Hi!
I'm using kdm and kde, and I would like to start a script automatically when a
user log in and out from kde. For the login I find ~/.kde/Autostart
directory, but for log out I don't find a corresponding directory.

Thank you,
Istvan
