[gentoo-user] canon multifunctional printer - MPC400

2005-12-06 Thread gigi
Hi,

I have this printer
http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Multifunctionals/SmartBase_MPC400/index.asp?ComponentID=25527SourcePageID=166550

not sure if it exists or have a different name outside Europe.

Q1- does anyone know it (eventually with a different name) and made show
up under gentoo with cups?

Furthermore
= I have printer usb in kernel (usb is fine with digital camera and
pda).
= dmesg gives
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3

= lsusb gives
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04a9:2611 Canon, Inc.

= I don't have /dev/usb (and therefore no /dev/usb/lp0)

Q2 is it because the printer is not known that no /dev/usb/lp0 shows up?
I read quite a lot off forums already and wonder if the best would be to
replace it instead of spending more time.

Q3. what multifunctional (basic/cheapest one) would you suggest to
replace it?

tx a lot for your help

Gildas

Hey Jamie,
Give me good sources for job opportunities and I move from France to NZ.
That'll be 1 more gentooist for NZ. ;-)

  Hi all,
We've got a map of Gentoo users here: http://www.frappr.com/gentoo
It's currently 95 users but I don't think Gentoo community is that
small. If you don't mind, please add yourself to the map :)
  Cheers,

Cool...It seems Poland is a bit overcrowded...

I'm the first Kiwi (NZ'er) byt the looks of it :-) but certainly not the
last, there are a heap of Gentoo users over here.
