[gentoo-user] [OT] Your alternative for Google Picasa

2006-11-01 Thread Mick
Hi All,

I have been using Konqueror to create photo albums with thumbnails and all,
and seamlessly publish on a server. I've had a look at Google's Picasa and
the 26.2M download it requires and wondered what the wider Gentoo community
are using. What would/do you use to crete an album with thumbs for
publishing on a website?

Thanks Tim, it looks good - but it needs Java which I do not have installed on
this laptop.

I've heard F-Spot[1] is good, and supposedly will export to the web in
a variety of ways. All second-hand, though, haven't used it myself.
(Though I probably will be soon, if I can use it with Flickr and
Picasa.)

Thank you all for the many alternatives suggested. I'll be trying some of
these out.

Two even more off topic Q's:

1. What's Flickr like?
2. Has anyone used Google Pages Creator? How do you create your album and
then upload the dir/files to it?

INSTALL JAVA! Jalbum is awesome [opinion]! There's so much you can do
with it - you can customise the look of your albums in so many ways.
You can show exif data, slideshows, even set up an ordering process, and
lots of other cool stuff.

The greatest thing about Jalbum is it uses html and javascript - so it
can run completely in a browser with no server-side scripting necessary.
Great if you want to put your album on CD and hand out to people.

cya!
