Re: [gentoo-user] Firefox update results in Yahoo request for newer version
The main probleme could be that they use firefox 3 and yahoo are not ready so they prefer to cancel this navigator whereas accept it anyway Iceaweasel it's not a problem, they just add and extra user agent in about:config (agent ... extra) But I have it without any problem with yahoo service on firefox 2 That's for the tips on pango any way, I will try it Le Thursday 03 January 2008 20:17:04 Randy Barlow, vous avez écrit : > Mark Knecht wrote: > >On my wife's 32-bit Gentoo machine we did a large Gnome update > > today which ended up doing Firefox-2.0.0.11 at the same time. They may allow Firefox, but not "Iceweasel", which is the default branding for Firefox in Gentoo. [...snip long involved story about Open Source licencing politics...] Try adding the line... www-client/mozilla-firefox -iceweasel ...to /etc/package.use and recompiling Firefox. As a quick-n-dirty, if you have the "User Agent Switcher" extension installed, try setting your user agent string to... Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071229 Firefox/2.0.0.11 May do the trick. While we're at it, adding the line... www-client/mozilla-firefox moznopango ...to /etc/package.use and recompiling Firefox will speed it up. The tradeoff is that you can't display Chinese/Japanese/Cyrillic text if your Firefox is set to display English. Apparently, "pango" paints the text characters dot-by-dot. This makes it more versatile, allowing it to display multiple character sets at once. But it obviously slows Firefox down. If it was specific to some Yahoo server that my house is pointed at it would have been at least consistent on my wife's & son's machines, or so I think. Strange problem. What's the exact URL you have set for your homepage? I'll be able to track down which team to poke if I have that. kashani, works at Yahoo. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

I already posted this, but I am using the same version of Firefox (and also in Gnome, though I doubt that matters) and don't see this problem. Are you using firefox-bin instead of building it? If it was specific to some Yahoo server that my house is pointed at it would have been at least consistent on my wife's & son's machines, or so I think. Strange problem. Maybe it's a USE flags issue of some type. I'll do a comparison. Note that today my wife is reporting a few new problems with the Gnome update itself so maybe there is some larger issue. I've done a revdep-rebuild on her machine. I've not finished all of the emerge -DuN world updates yet but it's probably 95% done. Thanks, Mark -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list

[gentoo-user] Firefox update results in Yahoo request for newer version
Hi, On my wife's 32-bit Gentoo machine we did a large Gnome update today which ended up doing Firefox-2.0.0.11 at the same time. On her machine I happen to use Yahoo as my home page and now I see a very boring home page with Yahoo giving me this message: Why miss out? To see all the new Yahoo! home page has to offer, please upgrade to a more recent browser. Supported browsers include: Internet Explorer 7 optimized by Yahoo! Firefox 2.0 Safari 2.0 Opera 9 Are others seeing the same thing? Thanks, Mark -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
