AFAIK, ggi is a separate driver. The vesa driver seems to be

Maybe file a bug ?

I did a bit more checking on this, and you are right, ggi is
definitely not the answer.

The ebuilds let the mplayer configure script autodetect for various
drivers. It also looks like mplayer changed the VESA driver for
1.0_pre8 [1] to depend upon the lrmi library and their own vesautils
stuff. Previous (pre7) versions did not.

The bad news is that while lrmi exists in the portage tree, there is
no ebuild for vesautils.
So for now if you want the vesa driver, you will have to stick with _pre7...

[gentoo-user] What happened with -vo vesa in Mplayer?

2006-07-22 Thread Alexander Fortwinder
I used to play movies on the console with -vo vesa option, mplayer -vo vesa -x
1280 -y 1024 somefile.avi
Right now there is no available vesa driver at all in my mplayer installation.
Where did it go? I can
play (sort of) with -vo fbdev or fbdev2, but my resolution is about 1/8 or less
of the actual screen size.
What options should be enabled and what other people use to play movies in full
resolution in console?
Thanks. Alex

This is just a guess, since I have never used this option in mplayer,
but maybe the vesa output driver requires USE=ggi for mplayer?
