OK I've reemerged python and ran python-updater.
Problems remain the same although the script works until it stops and gives
the error messages from above.
The script is a slighty modified (In/Outputs) version of the one that comes
with ecasound documentation:

Wrong USE variables? eix glibc shows: 2.7-r2(2.2)(13:09:03 27.03.2008)(gd glibc-omitfp nls -debug -glibc-compat20 -hardened -multilib -profile -selinux -vanilla) On my 32bit centrino laptop with latest gentoo python+ecasound work fine.
