media-video/devede

I've used it on oBSD and like it.

WOW. Great program!

One good tip deserves another so I highly recommend the movie The
Beautiful Truth. I wanted an app like this so I can burn copies of
that movie for everyone I know.

Hi,

if you want to have an iso of an dvd you can use dd to do so. For a
reason I don't understand you will have to run mplayer first for a
second or so.

(For me this works fine as long as the sources isn't bigger than 4,7GB)

I think you can only properly use `dd` if the DVD is region 0.
Are you sure that mplayer is needed in that case?

If the DVD is regionalised, then running mplayer will allow you to
clone it to hard-drive, but I don't think that image will then be
burnable. At least, not to play on a regular household DVD player -
the image will still carry some CSS encryption.

I use this method regularly to clone DVDs to hard-drive for ripping to
MP4. But during that ripping process mencoder does some decryption
transparently.

This is discussed in August's long thread Cloning movie DVDs with dd
- only works after accessing disk with another command?.

Stroller.

CSS encryption and regio-code are to pair of shoes.
You can have a regio 0 disc with CSS and a regio 0 without CSS

using dvdstyler but it depends on xine-ui which doesn't compile
 against xine-lib-1.2 which I need.

The package media-video/tovid has a series of scripts for converting
video, DVD menus, burning the DVD image etc. See http://tovid.org/ for
more details.
