[Geoserver-devel] app-schema WMS sld filtering

2013-01-15 Thread Victor.Tey
Hi Niels,

I have been trying to debug an issue where if a filter imbedded in SLD such as
the one below filters on a mapping where a function is used eg

Mapping:
if_then_else(isNull(HASRELATEDACTIVITY),toXLinkHref.

I get the error as show on the stacktrace attached. Would you be able to
suggest where I should be looking? The exception is thrown from
AttributeExpressionImpl.tryAccessor where the attPath(HASRELATEDACTIVITY) could
not be found in the object. Any suggestions, tip or clue at this stage will be
helpful thanks :)

  Here is it.
  https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/pull/56

Just noted that the 2.2.x WFS already supports the json format with a
different outputFormat (json instead of application/json)
  The old one
  http://docs.geoserver.org/2.2.1/user/services/wfs/outputformats.html
  The new one
  http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/services/wfs/outputformats.html

I've added to JSONType the support also for this (should be deprecated?)
format but the patches (currently) does not includes that response handler.

Adding support for that response handler is really simple: just add few
lines into the applicationContext.xml of wfs (and wms?)

I'm going to provide also that patch (separately) for backward
 compatibility.

Do you think that we can set it as deprecated output format into into
the 2.2.x branch to remove it in 2.3.x?

May we want to support 2 different type of outputFormat(s) also in the
master branch (the simple version 'json' and the complex one
 'application/json')?

  Cheers,
  Carlo

Carlo, in your original proposal, you also indicated that this was
 for
2.2.2 (stable). I assume you intend to backport this, but you now
 have
new changes for master. I think it falls within the guidelines.
 Please
ensure that the backport occurs in the first two weeks of a stable
 patch
 release cycle for testing (you might need to wait for 2.2.3;
 Andrea?).

Good point Ben.
Hum... this thing is working quite on the outskirts of the system,
 it's about
new output formats and new exception handlers, that is, it should not
break existing code, it's mostly additive, the proposal was asked
by Justin because of security concerns.

However, it does not hurt to let it rest for two weeks and apply it
 right
after the 2.2.x release

Cheers
Andrea

Unfortunately we could find no way to make that pluggable, so it went
  into the core.
The rest is meant to go into an extension/community mostly because
everything else in WMS EO is so custom but at the
same time can be handled using the existing extension points.

Fair enough, i guess not doable without a new extension point.

Eh, make that without a series of extension points both in the
  configuration, the UI, and potentially
rest-config too. We though about it and besides being somewhat odd they
 did
  not make much
sense outside of the needs of WMS EO,
also, once you have a opaque group, one you can see and call, one you can
  see and cannot call,
the only thing that seems left out is having a custom layer in the root,
what else is there to it?
That's why in the end we proposed the GSIP like this

If there is enough interest in WMS EO we can certainly make it core
  later, while forcing ourselves
in an extension would keep the changes clean.

Sounds good. Although if more EO implementation details start to leak
 into
the core module i think we should think about adding it to core or
 breaking
out all the bits into a pure extension. Cross that bridge if we get to
 it
  though.

  Yep.

Nested layer groups would help with organizing sites with lots of layers
and propably they could be utilized for GetMaps with not much trouble.
Learning server admins and WMS service users to configure everything right
for doing reasonable GetFeatureInfos might be harder, perhaps.

 connection
easier to use? Like it seems to be a much more user friendly way would
 be to
let users first have an option choose a datastore connection they've
 already
established, instead of picking drivers and the like. And then to show
 the
current thing as an advanced option. What's there now is definitely a
 great
first step, and more than sufficient to get in right now. But am just
curious if there are blockers to making things easier, or was just
 lack of
  time.

Lack of time was the number one issue, but there is more.

First off, the general design of GWC pointed in that direction, GWC is
 more
low level, more oriented towards the control of the little
details (e.g., for how rich the integration GUI in GeoServer is, it
 still
lacks some important options for production grade tile serving, like
controlling etags and expiry, or setting up cache masks to avoid caching
  tiles over the sea).

Also, for how much user friendly the current datastore support in
 GeoServer
is still lacking a number of advanced options that one
can only control by manipulating the JDBC URL, like, try working over
 an SSL
connection to a postgis database or
add one of the many options the Oracle JDBC driver supports (memo to
 myself,
we really should provide another connection
mode allowing the advanced user to provide a full JDBC URL also for
 spatial
  database connections).

Given that this is a enterprise feature (why setup a connection to an
external database if clustering is not needed?)
I believe it's better to err on the side of more control, instead of the
side of easier setup, and that was also agreeing with
the general lack of time context in which I've made this GWC 1.4
  integration.

Also what's the state of documentation with this stuff? Again, no
 blocker
at all, best to get things in. We may be able to help out some with
 docs.
Things like when each of the locks might make sense, to help people
 choose,
and docs on the quota store configuration.

There is documentation in GWC regarding this, but I did not manage to
 make
  any for GeoServer
so far, spent good part of the time I had lately to make the integration
  possible to start with:
  http://geowebcache.org/docs/current/production/index.html#clustering

 http://geowebcache.org/docs/current/configuration/diskquotas.html#disk-quota-storage

The final deadline for new features is in 7 days, I don't believe I'll
  manage to add documentation:
is there anyone interested in helping out?

  Cheers
  Andrea

Re: [Geoserver-devel] app-schema WMS sld filtering

2013-01-15 Thread Niels Charlier

Hi Victor,

Unfortunately, functions throw this kind of exception whenever
something goes wrong in the evaluation of an argument, this is
kind of misleading but it has nothing to do with the data type. If
the field HASRELATEDACTIVITY does not even exist as a
property in the object, an exception is thrown when trying to
evaluate it. Normally it will return null but with app-schema
mappings we did this on purpose by putting setLenient(true): see
FilterFactoryImplReportInvalidProperty. The reason this was done
is because people wanted an exception thrown if they accidentally
misspelled the column name: see InvalidColumnTest.

  Hope this helps.

  Cheers

Exactly this is the problem. On the top of the page you can manage
individual authentication filters. (add, remove, edit). I want to have the
same logic/look and feel for authentication chains. Until now, we have a
fixed set of chains and I want to add flexibility. This is the hard part.

The additional SSL filter and including the HTTP method into the chain
matching is the easy job.

Description:

A DescribeLayer request on a virtual WMS (http://xxx/geoserver/vservice/wms) returns a DescribeLayerResponse with the global service url :

wfs="http://xxx/geoserver/wfs/WfsDispatcher?"
owsURL="http://xxx/geoserver/wfs/WfsDispatcher?"

With this address, GeoServer can't find the layer and returns a 404 (if not ADMINISTRATOR)

DescribeLayer should respond with the virtual WFS address :

wfs="http://xxx/geoserver/vservice/wfs?"
owsURL="http://xxx/geoserver/namespace/wfs?"

Using this address, the WFS requests are correctly handled for a non-admin user.

[Geoserver-devel] some resource pool refactoring

2013-01-15 Thread Justin Deoliveira
Hey folks,

I wanted to run some proposed refactoring of the ResourcePool class past
everyone. Basically my goal is two-fold. The first and primary goal is to
extend to the jdbcconfig module to allow for storing SLD contents along
with configured style objects. It is really the last step to make the
module able to store all catalog contents in the database.

The idea would be to make it possible to plug in a custom ResourcePool
implementation via spring. The lookup mechanism is similar to how others
work in that first we would look for an instance in the spring context, and
if not found fall back to the default implementation.

A secondary goal is to allow for implementations to control how the various
caches in ResourcePool are created. One thing I have been wanting to
experiment with is the idea of distributed caches that GeoServers in a
cluster could potentially share. This secondary goal is not an immediate
one but I figured since i was mucking around in the vicinity i would make
these changes as well.

+1. I can think of some interesting ways this stuff could evolve, that will
warrant a lot more discussion. I'm curious to learn more about EO and if
there is more that makes sense to try to make generic. But no matter what
this feels like a step in a better direction, and sounds like a cool
capability to have as an extension.

Fair enough, i guess not doable without a new extension point.

Eh, make that without a series of extension points both in the

Learning server admins and WMS service users to configure everything right

[Geoserver-devel] [jira] (GEOS-5567) GetMap exceptions parameter ignored - exception returned as XML

2013-01-15 Thread Evan Martin (JIRA)

Evan Martin
 created GEOS-5567

GetMap exceptions parameter ignored - exception returned as XML

Issue Type:

Bug

Affects Versions:

2.2.2

Assignee:

Andrea Aime

Components:

WMS

Created:

15/Jan/13 11:23 PM

Description:

When I make a WMS request that causes an exception the exception is always returned in XML format, regardless of what I specify in the "exceptions" parameter. Eg. if I specify a layer name that doesn't exist:

http://localhost:8080/geoserver/aixm/wms?service=WMSversion=1.1.0request=GetMapexceptions=application/vnd.ogc.inimagelayers=badlayerstyles=srs=EPSG:4326format=image%2Fpng

The response I get is:

?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?!DOCTYPE ServiceExceptionReport SYSTEM "http://localhost:8080/geoserver/schemas/wms/1.1.1/WMS_exception_1_1_1.dtd" ServiceExceptionReport version="1.1.1"ServiceException code="LayerNotDefined"
  Could not find layer aixm:badlayer
/ServiceException/ServiceExceptionReport

Based on the documentation I expect an image to be returned. The same happens no matter what I try as the "exceptions" value.

Environment:

Re: [Geoserver-devel] Call for vote GSIP-91

2013-01-15 Thread Christian Mueller
@Andrea: No, there is no new pattern language, this is only an example. The
admin has to deal with simple ANT patterns.

@Justin
GSIP 91 could be named GSIP 82, part II. It is the successor for
completing chain configuration logic. This will be the last major rework in
the security core code. I want to bring it in before Andrea is doing
2.3-beta1. I will push to finish this work until the weekend and create a
patch.I hope you can spend some time on Monday for reviewing.

Christian

 Hey Christian,

How does this relate to GSIP-82?

Also, is there a patch i can check out?

Ah I see. Yep, allowing the configuration of the filter chains seems
 indeed useful.
However, the GSIP is talking about some sort of pattern language, is that
 going to be exposed
in the GUI directly or is it just an example:

 /rest/** (GET,POST)

Re: [Geoserver-devel] some resource pool refactoring

2013-01-15 Thread Christian Mueller
Hi Justin

Please keep me informed about the distributed cache, we need such a cache
for our authentication tokens.

Cheers
Christian

2013/1/15 Justin Deoliveira jdeol...@opengeo.org

A secondary goal is to allow for implementations to control how the
various caches in ResourcePool are created. One thing I have been wanting
to experiment with is the idea of distributed caches that GeoServers in a
cluster could potentially share. This secondary goal is not an immediate
one but I figured since i was mucking around in the vicinity i would make
 these changes as well.

All in all the changes are pretty straight forward, and mostly a pure
 refactoring with no behavioural changes.

 https://github.com/jdeolive/geoserver/commit/2dd214507cd764486707ed93711f380ff4db0f71

Thoughts or opinions? Do people feel this is something proposal worthy? I
should note that i was hoping to do this on 2.3.x.

GSIP sounds good but I do not really know much about this area.

@Andrea: No, there is no new pattern language, this is only an example. The
admin has to deal with simple ANT patterns.

@Justin
GSIP 91 could be named GSIP 82, part II. It is the successor for completing
chain configuration logic. This will be the last major rework in the security
core code. I want to bring it in before Andrea is doing 2.3-beta1. I will push
to finish this work until the weekend and create a patch.I hope you can spend
some time on Monday for reviewing.

Hey Christian,

How does this relate to GSIP-82?

Also, is there a patch i can check out?

Exactly this is the problem. On the top of the page you can manage individual
authentication filters. (add, remove, edit). I want to have the same logic/look
and feel for authentication chains. Until now, we have a fixed set of chains
and I want to add flexibility. This is the hard part.

Ah I see. Yep, allowing the configuration of the filter chains seems indeed
useful.
However, the GSIP is talking about some sort of pattern language, is that going
to be exposed
in the GUI directly or is it just an example:

/rest/** , SSL required
