Not sure how the module could/would change the startup options, but indeed we could have a small GUI portion that at the very least checks if Marlin is around and being used, and maybe puts a message on the home page (like the ones about master password being unchanged, that is, visible only to the administrator) So the zip would have this layout: - marlin/ -> contains the jars that need to be put in jre/lib/ext - web/ -> GUI jars to be put in the GeoServer WEB-INF/lib - README.txt -> instructions on what to put where Cheers Andrea -- == GeoServer Professional Services from the experts! Re: [Geoserver-devel] Better visibility for the Marlin renderer
How short can the instructions be made Andrea? Is it just copying a jar into the JRE? We could add a blurb to the end of each release, similar to the "About GeoServer 2.5 Series", highlighting "Try This'. I am sure we can rotate through things to try, but we could leave Marlin on rotation for 6 months. Re: [Geoserver-devel] Regarding the example WPS process
Hi Girja: Please keep the communication going, it is the only way we learn about problems and fix the documentation. We used to have these docs as a wiki to encourage participation, but due to lack of permission we now rely on our user list (and email like yours) to keep the documentation current and consistent. I have not tried that geoserver tutorial you are following, I am not sure it is up to date? Like I notice that GeoServerProcess extends GSProcess, and GSProcess is deprecated and no longer used. I use the GeoTools tutorial here: http://docs.geotools.org/latest/userguide/tutorial/process.html Can I ask how you are testing? 1) When I test with eclipse, eclipse processes the various project dependencies resulting in a run configuration. You can see some of that happen when following the instructions in the developers guide. When testing "optional" jars (such as extensions or my own processes) I have to go into the "Run Configuration" that (that was generated by mvn eclipse:eclipse) and add the additional projects I want to see tested. 2) When testing with a working GeoServer (such as a Tomcat WAR deploy) - I either export the jar from eclipse (if I am lazy) or use mvn assembly:assembly to produce a jar. I then copy that jar into the web apps geoserver libs folder (just like installing any other extension) It is difficult to debug a tomcat installation from eclipse, but it can be done. There are additional command line parameters and you have to start the server, and then let eclipse debugger connect to it and so forth. There are a few eclipse plugins that can make working with Tomcat easier, but I rarely put in the effort to set them up. If you are running the Start.jar form eclipse I would put a break point in the code that lists all the processes, and ensure your ProcessFactory is being found? You should also write a test case and try calling your process from the GeoTools Processors class, it does the "factory spi" lookup and should be able to check your process can be used. Re: [Geoserver-devel] GeoServer Certification
Ciao Fernando, my 0.02€ for this. There are various companies involved somehow with GeoServer and all of them (plus many others) offer trainings with certifications (e.g. we offer that as well http://www.geo-solutions.it/offer/professional-training/). PSC could pick all of them or none of them as official certifications but hardly some of them. IMHO best thing is to pick none of them and not have to discuss/argue about rules for being an official training and above all the return (aka money) to provide for this title. Re: [Geoserver-devel] Better visibility for the Marlin renderer
I actually like the idea of doing an extension module for it. Even the module is really just a tutorial and instructions, I think it could raise the visibility of it substantially. Since many people just go to the download page, especially if they've been using GeoServer for awhile. I think it's ok if it's very little or even no code - it _is_ a functionality that extends and enhances GeoServer. And it sounds like the module could perhaps adjust the start up options, and maybe complain in your GeoServer if you didn't successfully get it in the jdk/jre? [Geoserver-devel] [jira] (GEOS-6597) Avoid full namespace scan for GetFeature requests
Title: Message Title Justin Deoliveira created an issue GeoServer / GEOS-6597 Avoid full namespace scan for GetFeature requests Issue Type: Improvement Affects Versions: 2.4.7, 2.6-beta, 2.5 Assignee: Justin Deoliveira Components: WFS Created: 01/Aug/14 10:16 AM Priority: Major Reporter: Justin Deoliveira At the moment every wfs getfeature request does a full scan of all namespaces in the catalog to seed a NamespaceSupport object. While typically not a problem configurations with many workspaces/namespaces start to see a hit. This is made much worse when jdbcconfig is used since full scans of this nature are expensive and involve multiple trips to the database. Add Comment
Re: [Geoserver-devel] Better visibility for the Marlin renderer
Coming from a primarily Windows based environment, I like the tutorial for Windows installation. I, personally, would also greatly benefit from a Linux tutorial as that is one of the environments we deploy to. Not sure if my plus counts, but here it is in any case. +1 Chris Snider Senior Software Engineer Intelligent Software Solutions, Inc. [Description: Description: Description: cid:image001.png@01CA1F1F.CBC93990] From: Andrea Aime [mailto:andrea.a...@geo-solutions.it] Sent: Friday, August 01, 2014 6:41 AM To: Geoserver-devel Subject: [Geoserver-devel] Better visibility for the Marlin renderer Hi, I would like to give Marlin (http://www.geo-solutions.it/blog/developerss-corner-achieving-extreme-geoserver-scalability-with-the-new-marlin-vector-rasterizer/) better visibility for the GeoServer users, in order to support the sole developer of the library, and show that more and more software packages are offering it as an option (gvsig-ce is going to have it in the next release, as it greatly speeds up rendering of point clouds, lidar data I presume). The ideal thing would be to have an extension module, as it would end up showing in the downloads, but Marlin is something that requires almost nothing of GeoServer, it needs to be installed in the JRE/JDK instead and then some startup options need to be provided. I guess the second best option would be to write a tutorial on how to use it, with detailed instructions on how to make it work with Windows installations for example. What do you think, ideas? [Geoserver-devel] Better visibility for the Marlin renderer
Hi, I would like to give Marlin ( http://www.geo-solutions.it/blog/developerss-corner-achieving-extreme-geoserver-scalability-with-the-new-marlin-vector-rasterizer/ ) better visibility for the GeoServer users, in order to support the sole developer of the library, and show that more and more software packages are offering it as an option (gvsig-ce is going to have it in the next release, as it greatly speeds up rendering of point clouds, lidar data I presume).
