[Geoserver-devel] Time to remove the geogig community module?

2021-12-18 Thread Andrea Aime
Hi,
today I was looking at which modules are still using gt-geojson (to switch
them to gt-geojsondatastore) and "git grep" found, among others,
community/geogig.

Looking into it, I've found out:

   - It's actually not in the community build anymore
   - geogig depends itself on gt-geojson, and has been last built against
   GeoTools 26.x
   - geogig has not seen a new release in three years (last is Nov 2018)

My guess is, it's time to remove the integration module from the GeoServer
sources... but I'd like to hear from the community, and in particular
Gabriel, before getting there.

Cheers
Andrea

[Geoserver-devel] gitattribute and fixing newline chars

2021-12-18 Thread Andrea Aime
Hi,
following the last PSC meeting, and after attempting to use spotless,
I've realized we have a mix of line endings in our git checkouts, mostly
due to people forgetting to set the autocrlf setting in git.

This pull request tries to fix them, and adds a .gitattributes file that
should
avoid having funny line endings in the repo, in the future.
https://github.com/geotools/geotools/pull/3702

Feedback I'm looking for:

   - Are people ok with this?
   - Can anyone on windows/osx try it out and see if anything strange
happens? (I believe after checkout it out, a "git reset --hard" will be
   needed to fix files newlines

If I don't get negative feedback, I plan to apply the PR to GeoTools and
the backport on the stable and maintenance branches, and then apply the
same process to GWC and GS as well.
I'll do it over the Christmas break, hopefully less people are making
changes that could be affected by the PRs then.

Cheers
Andrea
