Re: [Geoserver-users] Geoserver fails to start

2013-02-20 Thread cmaul
Maybe, I don't know.

There has not been any geoserver before and I'm installing it as a root.
Directory structure and files are made, when tomcat try to start geoserver.

-pk

Pena

So, it is not what I assumed. Have a look whether this file is there at all.
Have a look at what the read write and execute permits are. If the file is
there, please do a chmod 777 and see what happens.

BTW you are better off to write to the list because there are many more to
help you and I am currently at a loss as to what to recommend because THIS
FILE IS PART OF THE GEOSERVER 2.2.4 INSTALL. It should be there. Grrr, sorry
that I can't be more help.

In my install on Tomcat are:
config.xml, masterpx.xml, layers-, rest-, service-, services-, users
property files and the masterpassword.digest and a geoserver.jceks (key)
file,

Cheers

Re: [Geoserver-users] [bulk]: Re: Layer Does Not Display

2013-02-20 Thread Jerome A. Wendell
Stefan,

It appears you were right. I am getting the pink tiles when I click on that
layer. When I right click on the page and open that link in a browser, I get a
blank page, and the geoserver log seems to indicate that there is not a problem
there. It appears my problem is on the OpenLayers side. Now I can focus on
that.

Thanks for all of your help.

Hi Jerome,
when you open your OpenLayers-page with the layer in it just right click on it
and let it show you the requested picture directly. There are two
possibilities: You get an image which is correctly delivered but with no
polygons in it or you get an error message from geoserver which perhaps tells
you more about what is not working.

But it seems to me that geoserver is rendering correctly because the
log-entries indicate correct requests.

How about reducing your openlayers to the minimum number of elements?

Cheers
Stefan

Re: [Geoserver-users] Layer Does Not Display

2013-02-20 Thread Jerome A. Wendell
Olivier,

Yes, I have tried zooming out max, and a couple of zoom levels before the
max a colored background shows up, but nothing else. I have been viewing
the page source in preview, and have tried to make adjustments to the layer
based on that, but so far have not been successful.

Thanks.

Olivier,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I can see the layer in layer preview in
geoserver. I have tried just adding this layer to the map by itself, and
still cannot see anything.

Thanks.

[Geoserver-users] authenticating with basic auth

2013-02-20 Thread Paolo Corti
Hi list
I am pretty new to the GeoServer security system, so please bear my
request if it is obvious :)

I have a web application that needs to provide a map viewer using
secured WMS layers from GeoServer (installed together with GeoNode).
After reading some posts [1] [2] [3] in the list, I am trying with
this approach (in Python ) to generate a valid JSESSIONID using Basic
Authentication to be used for any request from the client to access
the secured layers:

from httplib2 import Http
url = 'http://myserver/geoserver/j_spring_security_check'
hds = {
"Authorization": "Basic secretbase64xyz=",
 }
h = Http()
gs_resp, gs_content = h.request(url, "POST", headers=hds )

If I investigate the gs_resp variable, I effectively find a valid
JSESSIONID, but the status of the GeoServer response is 302, and in my
client map viewer the layers are still not displayed:

ipdb> gs_resp
{'status': '302', 'content-length': '0', 'set-cookie':

'date': 'Tue, 19 Feb 2013 00:16:58 GMT', 'content-type': 'text/plain'}

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I thougth that values were extracted from all_sdo_geom_metadata , but
there should be a good reason not to do that.
Would it be a problem having an extent not equal to real extent of all
features in the featuretype?

I supposed that this request was executed just during the configuration of
the layer.
Anyway, analyzing my DB today I found this query among the others and I
wonder because I am sure none had modified the configuration recalculating
the mbr.
Sometimes, it happens also for others layers that, I am sure, none can
modify/recalculate.
How is it possibile for you?

shapefile is usually faster, but if you have to split layers probably
Oracle or PostGIS is a better choice.
By the way spatial option requires Oracle Enterprise edition , that is
big bucks to put on the project budget. Consider using Locator, you
don't need spatial for storing data in SDO_GEOMETRY, or better have a
look at PostGIS.

Using shapefile or Oracle I would use GeoWebCache anyway. The only
reason against caching your data is if they are updated very
frequently.

Yeah, looks like an oversight. The filter class exists and is implemented
as per the spec but its not listed in the caps doc (which
happens statically) and not handled natively by any datastores.

Hello everybody,

is there a method to record somewhere in geoserver the result of the
following query executend on a Oracle DB ?

SELECT SDO_AGGR_MBR(SHAPE) as boundingbox from DBMCOLTUREAGRICOLE

Unfortunately, it is not possible to create a materialized view to store
this data in Oracle DB.

Thanks

[Geoserver-users] Performance and feasibility using geoserver if map publishing is.s. done using shapefile or oracle spatial database

2013-02-20 Thread dkotian95
Hi,

I have a huge amount of Vector data that I would like to serve via
geoserver, data size would be around 300 GB covering an area of 1/5th of the
U.S.
There are around 60-70 odd layers and all this data, I would like to serve
via WMS and there are SLDs to be applied to the layers for roads, point
symbology using SVGs.

Question:
1. I can create shape files(.shp) for this data or put it into oracle
spatial , which one would give better performance if we publish via Oracle
Spatial datastore or publish via Shapefile datastore for all these vector
layer. I understand that shape file has a limitation of 2GB,I will somehow
manage to restrict the size to 2GB or increase the layers.

2. We have around 25-30 concurrent users as well on this and would increase
in future, what would be better(shp or oracle)

3. Do we really need tile caching for these vector layers or we can bypass
it and serve directly from geoserver at all the time if we use shape file?

4. Are there any Oracle connecting/buffering tweaks on Geoserver recomended
for these kind of large datasets.

Kindly suggest.

best Regards

Hi Christoph

Here's an example we use to label OSM roads with highway shields:

osm_line
0
48000

ref

RijksoverheidSansText
bold

0.5
0.5

The VendorOptions used in this example are to control the repetition of highway
shields along the centre lines.

[Geoserver-users] SLD textsymbolizer problem

2013-02-20 Thread Wosniok, Christoph
Hi everyone,

I have a problem with the display of graphics with the textsymbolizer tag in
SLDs - it doesn't work in my case.

As far as I understood, I can add a graphic tag to the textsymbolizer to add a
graphic to a label
(http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/styling/sld-reference/textsymbolizer.html)
Apparently, the graphics tag is ignored...- can anyone give me a valid example
of the sequence of tags? Do I need any special vendoroption or something?

Cheers,
Chris

You should probably partition the stores/layers in different workspaces,
and use the worskpace specific
OGC services.

The other thing that slows things down is that for each time enabled layer
a query is done against the
database to retrieve fresh time values... we don't have a way to register
them statically, but
I'm thinking that one potential improvement to GeoServer (which requires
coding) could
be to submit these lists to some caching, so that they are not requested
every time (pretty much
like we cache the structure of feature types today) the significant
downside of this approach
is that the list of times can be very large, caching it would eat memory
easily...

Cheers
Andrea

[Geoserver-users] How to deal with large numbers of WMS layers

2013-02-20 Thread Matthias Müller

Hello list,

are there any best practices on offering a large number of WMS layers
with geoserver? We are operating a geoserver instance that has about 600
time-enabled vector layers (loaded from a postgres database) which
causes two problems:

1) The capabilities take a very long time (>5 Minutes) to load
2) The capabilities are becoming quite big (Currently about one 1MB) so
we might run into issues with clients

So are there any solutions for these problems? Can we speed up the
Capabilities response? Can we maybe assign layers to different WMS
endpoints?

Thanks,
Matthias

My experience is that we read so many data in the typical wms/wfs request
that having
a higher value is better. I distinctly remember setting values as low as 10
leading to
lower performance than 100 or 200, but I did not get any speedup past 1000.

The .tmp file is where GeoServer saves changes, but it shouldn't. It's not
because you were using multiple browsers. Already reported as

thank you a lot for directions.
If I understood it the default value is set in OracleNGDataStoreFactory.java:

   if (dataStore.getFetchSize() <= 0) {
// Oracle is dead slow with the fetch size at 0, let's
have a sane default
dataStore.setFetchSize(200);
}

Isn't it?

Looking on the web I see that a lot of people suggest that higher
values lead to slower performances, that to me is counter-intuitive.

In your experience it is spatial data that performs differently from
other data types or also with them it is better to set lower value of
the prefetch parameter?

Cheers,

Stefano

They are not used at all, we are just setting up a DBCP connection pool
in the most generic way, there is nothing DBMS specific in it:
https://github.com/geotools/geotools/blob/master/modules/library/jdbc/src/main/java/org/geotools/jdbc/JDBCDataStoreFactory.java#L428

Subclasses are allowed to override those methods, but the Oracle one does
not (not sure if any subclass does at all):
https://github.com/geotools/geotools/blob/master/modules/plugin/jdbc/jdbc-oracle/src/main/java/org/geotools/data/oracle/OracleNGDataStoreFactory.java
