[Geoserver-users] Changing GeoServer port + jetty

2014-10-20 Thread Ammar
Hello
I have installed GeoServer 2.6.0 using the Windows Installer on a WIndows
Server 2008. I tried then to change the GeoServer port, because the 8080 port
is been used by Oracle XDB, but I did not succeed. I followed this post to
change the port from 8080 to 8090 in the jetty.xml file: Set
name=portSystemProperty name=jetty.port default=8090//Set, and then
restarted the server and the GeoServer Windows service and then tried to access
the GS start page by typing http://geoserver:8090/geoserver/web/ and
http://localhost:8090/ but got the same error which is connection time out! I
found this post where the post author had the same problem and he/she fixed it
by changing Djetty.port in startup.bat to the correct port but in my case I
couldn't find the Djetty.port and instead there is this line call C:\Program
Files (x86)\GeoServer 2.6.0\wrapper.exe -t wrapper/wrapper.conf in the
startup.bat file!
Any ideas how to solve this problem?
Best regards,Ammar

[Geoserver-users] Changing GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR problem

2014-10-08 Thread Ammar
Hello
I have GeoServer 2.4.1 installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 in a Tomtcat 7.0
container. I am trying to change the location of the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR but I
am losing all the configurations (layers, datasources, workspaces, etc) when
doing so. The GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR parameter in the web.xml is commented out and
instead a Windows environment variable has been created that points to a
location in the local disk drive. The steps that I have been doing are:1. Copy
the entire folder that contains the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR to the new target
location.2. Change the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR Windows environment variable from the
current location to the new desired one.3. Restart Tomtcat 7.0 service.
When I log on to GeoServer, I find that all the configuration has been deleted
and instead I get the default workspaces, layers, etc that come by default with
GeoServer!
What am I doing wrong? Any solutions for this problem?
Regards,Ammar

Hello Ammar,
sorry for the delay.

Looking at your screenshots my guess is that the overlapping granules may have
the nodata not correctly setted, and in any case my understanding is that in
your mosaic you have configured the transparency on black color but the white
nodata sections overlapping are opaque, and so generating such strange white
lines effect.

Alessio.

Hi Ammar,
from the screenshot it seems to me like some granules are missing from the
mosaic. Is that possible? Or maybe the imagesa are overlapping?

Can you please send a screenshot with the granules seamlines on top of it?
(This is easily doable by loading the mosaic index as a vectorial layer on
GeoServer)

Hello Jonathan,

I merged all the files in one huge BIGTIFF image (70 x 656000) and it
came out perfect with no
gaps, lines or distortions. The problem with this approach is that I tried to
create overviews for the image and it took 4 continuous days of gdaladdo
running without any progress until I had to cancel the gdaladdo operation.

So, what I am saying is, the original images don't have gaps or no data in
them. I am suspecting that the problem occurs because of gdaladdo. I have
tested on smaller images, with and without overviews and the images that have
no overviews came perfect with no lines or gaps!

Any ideas, tips or suggestions on other options or alternatives methods to
creating overviews by gdaladdo?

If the data does it in QGIS too then it's almost certainly a no-data issue. I
can't suggest how to resolve that as I don't know anything about your dataset.

[Geoserver-users] Tips on serving Orthophotos as ImageMosaic

2013-12-06 Thread Ammar
Hello list,

I have 20,000 of TIFF+TFW files that I want to serve in GeoServer 2.4.1 as WMS.
I have followed the GeoServer on Steroids notes and I did the following:

1. Added projection using gdal_translate
2. Added inner-tiles (512 x 512) using gdal_translate
3. Added overviews (2 4 8 16 32) using gdal_addo
4. Compressed the dataset with LZW method using gdal_translate
5. Created one big GeoTIFF file using gdal_merge.py
I have tested the above on a small set of 150 TIFFs and the result was
one big GeoTIFF of 10.8 GB size. I have 10,000 TIFFs and this way I will
end up with roughly 100 GeoTIFF files having a size of 10GB each which
is far more than the original size of all the TIFF files!

I have a couple of questions:

1. What compression method do you recommend? (I am currently testing with LZW
predictor=1, LZW predictor=2, Deflate predictor=1 and Deflate predictor=2).
2. Are the overviews enough? Do I need to generate more overviews? (e.g 64 128)
3. What resampling algorithms are most recommended? Where can I read about
resampling algorithms?
4.
5. Any tips or recommendations?

Best regards,

[Geoserver-users] Open Layers problem in Layer Preview

2013-12-03 Thread Ammar
Hello List,

I am trying to view a Layer Group using Open Layers but instead of opening the
map in a new web page, I am getting a window that prompts me to either
open/save as the WMS! (see attached screen shot). I have just deleted one layer
from the group and changed the layers' order and started getting this problem.
The Layer Group used to work normally and viewed in Open Layers before
deleting/arranging the layers. Also, I have tested opening each layer
separately in Open Layers and they work fine. Any ideas suggestion will be
appreciated.

[Geoserver-users] Using LayerSwitcher() With a Layer Group of WMSs

2013-10-10 Thread Ammar
Hello.

I am newbie to GeoServer and OpenLayers.

I am trying to setup a WMS that consists of 6 layers of thematic maps on
GeoServer. I tried to add LayerSwitched() to the code but the map just went
blank. My question is: is it possible to add LayerSwitched for a Layer Group of
WMSs? If no, is there another way to show 6 layers of thematic maps (somehow at
the same time) on GeoServer?

Thanks in advance.
