It would also be great (for debugging purposes to understand what's
happening) if you could also attach that sample if you are allowed to do
that.
If you can't share it, you can consider creating a reduced version of it
(using gdal_translate as an instance) which is still able to replicate the
issue, or possibly, send it to me by private email (I won't share it).

corrected already.
Recently I encountered exactly the same problem
(java.lang.RuntimeException: - Unable to render RenderedOp for this
operation when setting up InputTransparentColor) with GeoServer 2.4.x.
