Re: [Geoserver-users] Geoserver JVM tuning

2014-06-17 Thread cmaul
Dario,

you will have to do this for Jetty (or any other container), because that is
where the Java process is generated.
In response to Jody: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 is fine, I just restarted my
geoserver server after 3972 hours (yep, bugger didn't get to 4000, but what
do you do if they turn the electricity in the building off), anyway, it is
nearly 1/2 a year, so, other than Windows 2003, stability is not an issue. I
guess, Dario, you would be better off with the Jetty list with your problem
than here.

Sorry, can't help you but this is exactly one of the reasons why I am using
Tomcat, i.e. more flexible and easier config.

Please bear in mind unused memory does not improve your performance and
geoserver is fairly frugal as long as you deliver only vector layers. It is
more a question 'right-sizing' rather than maximising memory. That, in turn
depends on your load. BTW the war files of 'Boundless' don't care whether
they run in Jetty or Tomcat. If you don't care about the nice selection
Window at the beginning, you will be fine with any app container.

Cheers

Christian

2014-06-17 Thread Jody Garnett
Windows Server 2003 had a tradition of being difficult, not sure about 2008.
Have a look at http://boundlessgeo.com/solutions/opengeo-suite/ which
includes two weeks trial support.

It is unlikely that you'll get a response about the OpenGeo Suite around
here,
this community supports only the standard GeoServer and its installers,
we don't know how things work in the OpenGeo suite ones

[Geoserver-users] Geoserver JVM tuning

2014-06-16 Thread dperko
I have OpenGeo Suite 4.02 with Geoserver 2.4, in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
Standard. I installed also Oracle JDK 7 with Public JRE included. For
production I have to add all parameters about server mode, memory etc in few
configuration files. Does anyone know what files I have to find and edit.
Java.cfg in Opengeo or Java JDK folder, start.ini in jetty folder. It's very
confusing to find correct information for each OS and OGS/Geoserver
situation. All I want is to force Geoserver in server mode, and to reserve
to it enough memory.
