Hi Julia, yes you can cascade the geoservers. Publish the layer in the first Geoserver and then cascade. In the second Geoserver you can define a WMS (which would be your first Geoserver) as a datastore. At the bottom of the list of all formats (file or database) for stores there is WMS. Please choose that. Enter name of the datasource, a getCapabilities URL to the first Geoserver, an username and password if needed and you are done.
