May I suggest the following. The Climate Project (Al Gore's group) has a
phalanx of climate change presenters out there (I'm one) who are willing to
give a professional, provocative, up-to-date presentation on climate change
based on Mr. Gore's slides. Inconvenient Truth is already dated. The
presenters have all of those slides and gazillion more, from which they
build their own, regionally-oriented, presentations. Frequently, you have a
number of presenters to choose from and you can find one who will emphasize
the aspects of the problems of concern to the sponsoring group. There is
never a charge for these presentations. We've just gone through a series of
terrific update meetings and so have lots of new stuff on solutions and how
to organize local and community action.

I would strongly encourage your students to go to the Climate Project's web
site (www.theclimateproject.org) and the home page will lead them to a list
of presenters in the area. You can contact these people directly (as a group
even) and ask if any are interested in presenting, focusing on your
concerns. You'll have a much more lively session with a live person to
interact with then you will with a movie.

If you need further information, have your students contact me directly.

campus movie night

2008-02-12 Thread Shannon K. Orr
Dear gep-eders,

My graduate students in Environmental Management are organizing
Earth Day events as part of their course requirement. One group
is interested in showing An Inconvenient Truth. I have two
questions:

1) Is there still some way to show this for free - if I remember
correctly some organization was sponsoring campus showings, but I
couldn't find it when I searched.

2) Is there a better movie to show on campus? It seems like
while still relevant, the buzz about the movie is pretty much
over. I know we've compiled lists of movies to show in classes,
but are there any suggestions for a movie worth showing as part
of a campus Earth Day celebration?

Thank you!
Shannon
