Re: Loss of XML feeds...

2017-03-16 Thread Mike Casswell
I understand (to a degree at least) the significance of this data for
the users of get_iplayer.

What is its significance from the BBC's perspective? For what purpose
do they make it available?

RE: get_iplayer data sources restored

2017-03-16 Thread Graham Temple (gmail)
Yes, it ran fine for a bit but now I am getting a new message every time I
try and do anything.

No schedules again and if you run the PVR:

Running PVR Searches:
_1066_A_Year_to_Conquer_England_Series_1_name_tv
Can't call method "new" on an undefined value at get_iplayer.pl line 1829.
PVR Run complete

Or if trying a record using the URL in the PVR

Recording The Following Programmes

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p04qw7rz/clique-episode-2 - -
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p04qw7rz/clique-episode-2)

Can't call method "new" on an undefined value at get_iplayer.pl line 1829.
Recording complete

What is this "can't call method "new" on an undefined value at
get_iplayer.pl line 1829" relating to?

I admit I am still on 2.94 because it has continued to do everything I need
until now (apart from the recent problem affecting everyone). If upgrading
would cure it I can do, but it did work fine again this morning to start
with.

Many thanks

Graham

then "panic" will resume in 6 weeks' time for sure...

Could it be related to the issue at
https://squarepenguin.co.uk/forums/thread-214.html
regarding corrupted cache files?

(I really don't know, but might be worth a try.)

Wow, wow and double wow. Spot on Mark.

Dumped all the cache files and re-opened get_iplayer and boom working
perfectly.

What a strange coincidence that it corrupted hard on the heels of the data
sources problem.? Computers! Don't you just love em and hate em.

Many thanks indeed.

How did you manage to get a Nitro API key?

https://developer.bbc.co.uk/nitro still says that it's only open for
registration to BBC employees.

In the early days of Nitro, the BBC did issue some keys to non-employees. They
seem not to have expired all of them. :)

This blog post has some details:

The BBC most likely no longer make use of this data in any of their own
systems.
