Thanks to Alan and RS for the replies.

As I said in my original message, I can download the "alternative version" from
Radio 4 Extra without a problem.

It seems curious that the BBC have made that one available and have withdrawn
the original Radio 4 version - perhaps there was something in there that they
have removed on the repeat?

Radio 1 Vintage

2017-09-30 Thread Don Grunbaum (Gmail)
Hi all

The BBC are broadcasting programmes on a "pop-up" station called Radio 1
Vintage. They do not appear to be picked up in the radio cache.

I have found a way of recording them using the PVR and the pid recursive option
(there is a series pid for the programmes) but out of curiosity, is there a way
to "force" GiP to pick up the programmes?

Thanks for you help.

Re: Missing PIDs

2017-09-18 Thread Don Grunbaum (Gmail)
Hello Shareef

If you haven't run GiP for some time, it's likely that the programme you are
trying to record is not in the cache as the source now used is only good for
the last seven days. If you run GiP once a week (or more often) the cache will
build up to four weeks' worth of programmes, with older programmes (28 days or
a bit more) being removed from the cache. I'm fairly sure that's how it works
since the last major rebuild following the BBC's changes to the source that GiP
uses.

If it's not in the cache, your search won't find a match, but using the pid
allows GiP to get the programme source directly, even if it's not in the cache.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure that somebody will correct me.

Hi there,

not used get_iplayer for a long time so it's very possible I've done
something stupid. I've just installed the latest Windows executable
following the install instructions, however, I'm unable to see
programs that I know are available.

I want to download an Annie Mac radio show from R1 and traditionally I
would have searched using 'get_iplayer --type=radio Annie'. This
fails to show any entries.

I can download an episode directly using the PID if I find one from
the website, such as p05fdry0, but searching shows nothing.

% get_iplayer "Annie Mac Live"
> nothing

% get_iplayer --pid p05fdry0
> -==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==-
INFO: Annie Mac Live Mix - Waze & Odyssey Ibiza Mix (p05fdry0) Already
in history - use --force to override

I've tried refreshing the cache, resetting the cache (which hung), and
am all out of suggestions from the wiki.

Thanks, Shareef.

There's an output option you can store in your options file

You can add an output path to a pvr file

It's all documented at

I don't think that is illegal. That is because it is the house
that
is licensed not the person. Anyone can watch a tv that is on

premises.

No they can't/couldn't. Did they not have to be members of your

household (or guests)?

Are you sure? You may well be right but I have not seen that
documented.

Colin

While this is getting wildly OT, it IS the premises that are licensed.
You need separate licenses in "houses in multiple occupation" if
people have their own lockable entrance door (e.g. student lets).

Commercial premises (offices, shops and factories etc.) need a licence
but anybody on the premises can watch. I'm not sure about hotels, they
will probably be dealt with differently.

But don't go into PRS licences or we will be here all year.

XP SP3 here, GiP 2.94

In one of your previous posts you said:

get_iplayer --type=radio --pid=p03lsql7 --pid-recursive

Yes, I did

Can you post the console output when running the pvr job, so that we
can see what's possibly wrong? In the CLI run:

get_iplayer --pvr-single="ONCE_BBC_Radio_2_50s" > PVR_log.txt 2&>1

I get "The syntax of the command is incorrect". :-(

However, running the pvr in full, it is now working. :-)
The only significant change seems to be the naming of the file
starting with ONCE. Does that make a difference? Does GiP treat these
jobs differently? Normally they are deleted after a successful
execution.

I honestly hope you get this sorted!

Me too. I would rather have "brand" PIDs in the PVR than name matches
for a lot of what I download. If they all have to start with ONCE, I
can deal with that.

Hi again, Don :-)

Much like Howard, I do not use the Web PVR Manager
(GUI), except for testing things...
When you said you tried adding the "equivalent command"
to the "pvr", what did you actually do?
In the above context, does "pvr" = "Web PVR Manager"
or were you actually trying to set up a PVR job?

The "Quick URL" input field of the GUI does not accept,
I'm afraid, the "--pid-recursive" switch :-(

Anybody else had any success with
that option within the pvr?

If you want to create a PVR job for brandPID=p03lsql7
you can do so via the CLI:

get_iplayer --type=radio --pid=p03lsql7 --pid-recursive --modes=best
 --pvr-add="ONCE_BBC_Radio_2_50s"

(Notice the prefix "ONCE_" in the PVR search's name,
because this is a pid related PVR job.)

If you're using the GUI, then selecting the "PVR List" tab
you'll see that "ONCE_BBC_Radio_2_50s" has been added
to the list. Tick that PVR search and then hit tab button
"Run PVR" to manually initiate the downloads via the GUI;
or you can use the "Run PVR Scheduler Now" shortcut to
fetch at a later time (or use the CLI:

get_iplayer --pvr-single="ONCE_BBC_Radio_2_50s")

As suggested by Graham, once you have downloaded
everything you wanted, disable/delete the PVR job
through the GUI or CLI.

Hope I've helped,
Best regards from 27 Celsius Greece!
Vangelis.

I have added a recursive pvr job with the above "brand" pid, but when

Hi Don - it depends on what you mean by "default";
have a quick read of:

https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer/wiki/webpvr#settings

By "default" I mean those that are saved by the "Save as Default"
button.

This covers those, so thank you.

Changes to the WebPVR "defaults" made through the GUI
are stored as browser cookies, from "localhost" (or "127.0.0.1",
in older versions of the WeBPVR) hostname - if you have
browser addons or browser settings that clear cookies after
browser is exited, those "settings" will be lost. You then have
to exclude "localhost" from its cookies being wiped out,
if you want those settings to persist between browser sessions.

The WebPVR picks other GiP settings from GiP's options files,
system options:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\get_iplayer\options
User options:
%USERPROFILE%\.get_iplayer\options

Please do read

https://github.com/get-iplayer/get_iplayer/wiki/webpvr#relationship-to-cli

carefully, to understand how the "CLI" settings
(stored in options files) and in what hierarchy
are being used by the GUI along the ones
stored in browser cookies.

I am aware of that file, which applies to any way that GiP commands
are launched.

I'm trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox

The "Web PVR Manager" windows shortcut
always opens the system default browser - as
Alan has suggested, if you want to use Firefox
for the WebPVR, then you should make Firefox
the default browser.
If you are currently only experimenting, then, once
Web PVR Manager launches Google Chrome,
you can exit Chrome, launch Firefox and open
a "http://localhost:1935/"; firefox tab to access
the local WebPVR server.

Yes, been doing that, no problem.

(What I have done personally is keep IE
as the system default, but modified
"pvr_manager.cmd" file to use Firefox in a new tab:
- .\pvr_manager.url
+ "%ProgramFiles%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P default -new-tab
"http://localhost:1935/";

use at your own risk...)

There be serpents! :-)

... and one OT comment:
While you are trying to switch from Chrome to Firefox,
the Mozilla devs are doing all their best to ape/clone
Chrome!

But the Mozilla Devs haven't dropped support for Windows XP (yet!). My
only reason for switching is that Chrome keeps popping up a message
that support for XP has ceased, and I can't turn it off. I am
gradually migrating to a new Windows 10 PC (pause for Linux users to
snigger), but it's a long process in my particular case.

I will have to copy and paste between Chrome and Firefox to transfer
the settings, I guess.

Incidentally (as a nod to a different thread) my original post and
this are sent via Outlook Express on Windows XP, in plain text, and
they get through. A few people's posts arrive with the content as
attachments, but that doesn't matter (to me).

Regards,
Vangelis.

Thanks again, Vangelis, for your ever comprehensive reply. You could
have simply said RTFM!

Subject: Should get_iplayer work on windows 10?

I have got a new computer and installed get_iplayer, transferred over
my
history file, and PVR file. So far so good all opens fine (I use the
PVR)
but whenever I try and record anything it comes up with a parser
error.

SNIP-

I would be very glad of some help as my old machine has to be turned
in on

Friday! I have tried re-installing but to no avail.

Regards

Graham

FWIW I have two computers running Windows 10 with GiP working
successfully.

One is a new machine with a "vanilla" GiP installation, the other is a
netbook upgraded from Windows 7.

My guess is that there is something in your options file that doesn't
quite match your file/folder structure and that is upsetting the
syntax of generated commands.

As Vangelis advised, try running a simple CLI command and work from
there.

Thanks Don

I already tried the CLI command, no avail.

Could you explain the above a little more for me please?

You said in your original post that you had transferred your history
and pvr files.

Have you also transferred your options file? (from C:\Documents and
Settings\$User$\.get_iplayer). Depending on the contents of your pvr
files, there could be a mis-match between the options file and the pvr
files unless the file/folder structure is identical.

But you say that the CLI also failed, so I don't know if that is the
problem after all.

I did initially have a problem on a new Windows 10 PC, but I
uninstalled from the originally installed account, and re-installed
from the account I had created and all worked fine.

If it's not too problematical, perhaps you could try doing something
similar, test that the "vanilla" install works, then gradually change
the files to the transferred ones.

Does that make sense?

Re: Windows 10

Thanks Jon, but I'm certain that it didn't relate to the BBC outage -
that gave a totally different error on my existing XP machine.

On 10 the command wasn't even "trying" - command exit code 1 means
that the command is unrecognised (according to Lord Google).

most likely "hey presto it works" would have applied if you'd done
nothing and just tried again. like I said, your problem coincided
with the BBC turning off things on their website which they've now
turned back on again.

But glad you're up and running.

Well, I didn't expect that!

Thanks for all the responses, useful and not so useful.

The answer wasn't a change of OS or hardware.

I uninstalled and re-installed and hey presto it works.

I think it was almost certainly a user account permission or path
problem - that can happen on any multi-user OS, as my near-50 years of
computer experience will confirm.
