maybe we could change the text to read:

and then someone who knows what is going on could fill in those details.

sorry for the long thread,

is there a more reliable way to communicate this to you?

Yes, a reproducable test case. A detailed instruction on how to
 reproduce the problem.

the version update that mr. neary suggested gave me a new gimp that does
not have the problem. thank you.

sorry for the delay. it took longer to make gimp this time because (it
seems) that inspite of the interesting warning, all
--enable-gimp-console does is break make. a more honest warning would
save time for honest users/groupies.

Instead of listing the changes, they should be done.

I don't think there is anything we need to change here. You are using
a nonstandard configure option that is strictly discouraged. We know
that it doesn't work and we told you. We even plan to fix it
eventually.

[Gimp-developer] Linux common ICC profile directory

2004-05-19 Thread Stefan Klein
Hello,

sorry about the cross-list posting, but it is the easiest way to say
this... At CinePaint (cinepaint.sourceforge.net) we are in the process of
integrating full colour management following the ICC standard. A while
ago, there has been some discussion on the Open ICC list
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) about a directory standard for ICC profiles
on Linux.

Marti Maria, developer of littlecms (www.littlecms.com), suggested
/usr/share/color/icc and ~/.color/icc as intuitive paths. We decided to
go along with this.

So this is just to let you know about it in the hope you like the
suggestion and might adopt it in your own application as appropriate
thereby turning the paths into a standard which would be a first step
towards an OS-based colour management on Linux.

Thanks
Stefan

you told so in email and on the irc. the very fact that i am
occasionally reading the configure options alone is enough to assertain
that it is not just developers reading this stuff.

i would like that the message resemble the facts. you type strictly
discouraged in email but the configure spew sends a different message.
one that looks like a lame message for as long as it has been there.

perhaps just pasting some of the email discouragements where it should
be, in the configure --help spew.

you know, for the honest groupies and hobbyists like me.
