looks pretty cool, but it would be nice to have full control over
color. perhaps that would be a future upgrade to it?

Thanks for your explanation. I am not familiar with the
algorithm.. but just curious, would there be any difference
if the Depth takes in negative integer (currently only positive
accepted) ? Can you comment on this ?

It wouldn't make any difference. The surface normal vectors would
just point in the other direction, which is what you already get with
"invert bumpmap".

The question is: Does it use 255-bm or just -bm? And would that make any
 difference?

It wouldn't change anything. The local differences that are used to
compute the surface normal would be exactly the same.

Dude, follow the math! Read the source!

some special effects

2001-01-31 Thread Image Processing

Hi, I am learning image proceesing nowadays. And I find that GIMP is really a nice
place to visit.

I have several questions. I like to implement some special effects by myself, such as
'Colored Pencil', 'Chalk Charcoal' in Adobe Photoshop. But I don't know how to do.
Could anybody give me some advice about how to do? Thanks a lot!

Best Regards,

Bam

It is frequently useful to see how the tile looks when tiled many
times, to reveal any disturbing salient patterns. The above procedure
can only help with the local edge transition but doesn't give you any
 overview

Adding a special mode to Gimp seems like overkill to me, but hey - it's
a popular request and all patches will be considered.

I think it might actually be a good idea, but the design has to be thought
 out carefully

while your thinking about it, something like an abstracted view plug in system
could be nice. that way the tiled view would be a simple use of it. as could
print preview, hightfields etc...
