Heh, right, I tried (again) with no image open...

So maybe we need a way that always works to trigger
that search entry :)

In any list in GIMP, have the keyboard
focus on the list, and hit Ctrl+F.

In 2.9 we have a new action search dialog.  It might be interesting to
include more than just actions in the search results, such as images,
layers, paths, brushes, etc.

We can probably enable/implement type-ahead search for the list items
(layers etc.), but adding a whole search box might be a bit of an
overkill. It depends.

  I have around a hundred layers, and it's really cumbersome to navigate.
I was wondering:

What do you think of a having a filter/search box for the layers?  To let
you jump to a layer quickly
