Then you're probably going to want to crop out a square part of the picture
and adjust that.

Its a passport photograph, so doing the little chain things doesn't really
work, as it becomes distorted.
Thats why I was trying to do what the previous poster suggested

Looks like they did two screen shots, (print screen), focused in on the

First off, what's all this "us" you're talking about?
Being on this, and countless other lists of various software products, I
have gotten accustomed to the fact that topics will come up again and
again and again despite being discussed to death in the archives. it's
happened with this, it will happen with other topics. Throwing an
electronic version of a hissy fit isn't going to help. So you can kill
file it or ignore it and move on.

I've heard the same thing on my own end, but until somebody proposes a
reasonable alternative (and since I have not done any development on
GIMP, I don't consider it appropriate for me to suggest one), we're
really stuck at an impasse. Maybe something like gIMP.
The one thing I'd like to see answered one way or another in a concrete
fashion is how much of a barrier to acceptance is the name? Are CIOs
really rejecting it because of the connotation? Is there a mass
rejection? I don't know, I have no facts one way or another but until
somebody actually puts together some numbers we're going to continue to
scratch our heads as to why the GIMP is not as well accepted as we think
it should be.

I don't think the costs on the electronic side would be that bad.
Currently I use namecheap for my domains and hostgator for hosting,
neither of which runs that bad (three domains at approximately
$8.88/year and $10/month for the hosting.). And I am nowhere near my
limit for storage.
The hardest part of any sort of periodical publication is keeping that
constant energy going. We all have our lives outside of this forum, and
in many cases that life has to come first. Somebody is going to have to
maintain the role of editor and chief nagger in terms of getting content
in on time (I've played that role and it is not fun).
One last question for you all: if you do put-together an online
magazine, who will you be writing to and for? It's easy for the people
here to put questions to themselves and answer them, but I'm thinking
that's not the audience you're aiming for (otherwise, why would you even
need to expand beyond this).

Which is preserved as long as you keep the tie between the height and
the width. You can even specify whether you use inches, picas, pixels,

[Gimp-user] May be OT: Gimpshop

2007-02-26 Thread John Meyer
I currently have 2.2.13 of Gimp on Linux. I read about Gimpshop, and my
questions are as follows:

1. Is Gimpshop a separate program from Gimp, or is it merely an extension?
2. If it is the former, can Gimpshop and Gimp run on the same machine?
3. If the latter, what extensions do I need for my Gimp?

Not to flame here or anything, but has anybody done an actual study as
to if IT managers are overlooking GIMP because of the name, and I'm not
talking anecdotes. I'm talking about a systematic survey.
I don't deny that some people MAY have a bias against GIMP, but you need
to look at the other side of the picture: what about the developers who
still associate GIMP with a great program. Product names are filled
with all sorts of good will, and if you're going to change, you'd better
be able to sit down and say that there is a valid reason to do this.
And while we're on the topic of names, here's one idea:
