Re: [Gimp-user] Plug-ins for Windows?
Did you try right clicking on the image and then Filters->Render->Clouds->Plasma... or Filters->Map->BumpMap...? Will - Original Message - From: John Alway To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 7:07 PM Subject: [Gimp-user] Plug-ins for Windows? Hello, I just started using GIMP for Windows and am working through the basic tutorial. I noted that right away it wants me to use the plug-ins for "plasma" and "bumpmap". However, I get the impression that these plug-ins are only available for Linux. Am I right about that? If not, where can I get the Windows plug-ins? Many thanks for any help. Regards, ...John

Check out http://www.linuxjournal.com/index.php they have had a couple of good articles about Film Gimp also the project is hosted at http://sourceforge.net do a search there and you should find it. Re: [Gimp-user] TrueType Fonts Question
I don't think KDE and GIMP do not share fonts in anyway. As far as I can tell there are two ways to use ttf fonts with the GIMP on a UNIX box. The first and probably the best way is to let X11 handle it. The problem with this is I be dammed if I can get it to work on a Debian machine. Nor can I find any one that seems to have the definitive answer on how to make it work. The second way is to install the FreeType Plug-in like you mentioned, this does not interact with the text tool though. It is a separate plug-in under Filters->Render->Free Type I think. It has a few issues to work out but all in all it seems too work well. This is what I wound up doing and I have not had any trouble with it. In fact if there was a way to do it I would just make it my default text tool, it would be more efficient. Will - Original Message - From: "Jed" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, November 02, 2002 6:05 PM Subject: [Gimp-user] TrueType Fonts Question Hello, I use FreeBSD 4.7-stable, Gimp version 1.2.3, KDE 3.0.4 and X11 4.2.x. I recently installed several .ttf fonts using KDE's Font Installer. I did this specifically so that I could utilize them with Gimp. They are working just fine in X11/KDE but I cannot get them to list in the Gimp's font-list. I've searched everywhere (including this list's archive) for a fix and the only thing I could find was a site that suggested installing the freetype-0.2 mod? I did this and the install went just fine (after i linked gtk12-config to gtk-config) but these new fonts are still not showing in Gimp. I'm sure that I'm just missing something here (maybe a line in gimprc) but I can't seem to figure out what. Is there anyone on this list that might have experience with this who could help me out? Re: [Gimp-user] stitching scans together
I seen a plug-in around some were that was supposed to do this automagickly. I can't remember the name of it but I think it was in the plug-in registry. If not do a google search for it. Personally I think the best way to do it is to overlap your images and then use layer masks to blend them together. The level tool also can be handy to mach colors. Check around on some of the Photo Shop sites or photography sites for tutorials on this they should apply to the Gimp also. Hope that helps, Will - Original Message - From: "Gracia M. First of let me say I think the GIMP is truly a great tool. But it does have some serious short comings for me. The lack of color management and at the least a cymy conversion utility really makes it hard for pre press work. I have been reading the gimp devl news list and there are a few mentions of these features and a feature request for future versions. But I have not been able to find much to verify that there is any work is being done in this direction. Is there any plans to include these features in 1.4. Has any one using 1.3 seen these feature included? From what I gather the intention is that cmyk support will be in version 2.0, but how long is that going to take? In particular a color management feature would be great. The use of icm profiles is becoming more and more common everyday, and I feel that for a lot of people this is holding them back from dropping Photo Shop in favor of the GIMP. I did see a plug-in the other day for color management but it seemed to be in an early stage of development with no work being done on it for about two years. I tried to compile it under Debian but could not make it work. I am no programmer but I would be willing to help in this matter anyway that I can. [Gimp-user] Gimp Color Manager plugin
I would like to be able to manage images with embedded .icc profiles in them. I downloaded the gimp color manager plug-in and tried to compile it, with it failing because of a bunch of undefined reference errors. I have lcms installed on a Debian Woody install with Gimp 1.2.3. If any one could help me with this it would be appreciated. Even if I do get this to compile, is it going to be a complete color management solution? The plug-in appears to be a very alpha stage project with little work being done on it for a couple of years. To me this is a make or break issue for me and the Gimp. If I can not come up with a color management solution, even if I have to use resource other then the Gimp I will have to get PhotoShop Elements and run Windows which would be a major loss in usability for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Will Hitch your wagon to a star. Ralph Waldo Emerson Hitch your wagon to a star. [Gimp-user] ps to pdf
Dear List, I am trying to create a pdf document for print using the gimp. I have saved my image as a ps file and tried to convert it with ps2pdf. The problem is that it looks really really bad. The fonts are almost unreadable and the images are grainey. How would I convert a ps file to a high quality pdf file. I have read the online docs for ps2pdf and found them a bit over my head. Any help that you could give me would help. p.s If this is the wrong place for this could someone send me in the right direction.
