Gimp Lists?

2001-01-09 Thread Jonathan Gift

Hi,

The Gimp web page recommended this list but so far I see no activity at
all. Are there other lists that I should know of?

Thanks,

Jonathan

I doesn't agree. There's activity. You have probably arrived the wrong
day... Else, there's the developer list.

Thanks.

Ask them a question. Asking them how to draw a straight line is always
fun.

Wow, I've been on some 10 hrs now and this my second mesage from the
wilderness. And in answer to my cry for recognition. I figured everyone
was very hush hush, or it was the Zen approach to using Gimp.

As for your question, ah, yes, I can see the fun that could be had. How
about "How do I open an image?" or "What is a jpg?", and the all time
favorite, "how to you start the program?" Or another, "why won't the Gimp
work from the command prompt when I boot up?" Of course, the best is to
troll the archives and find the most often asked question and pop it up
once again. On the Debian group it's invariably "how do I load
Netscape?" You can just hear the teeth grinding on that one. Though
everyone stays very polite with only the occasional reference to RTFM.

And here I was figuring to have an empty list to yodel in. Is there any
activity hee? Even the Gimp newsgroup has some activity...

Straight Line Tutorial

2001-01-09 Thread Carol Spears

Hmm, because some are wondering, I went to the archives and found the
location of this lovely tutorial from Seth. Long ago when I went there,
it caused me to upgrade my gimp from 1.0.4 to 1.1.24.

Actually, everyone knows everything now, for there's no further need for
discussion.

I am currently designing a sticker to customize keyboards. It says "ANY".
Stickers are $3 USD each, the instruction and installation manual can be
purchased for $10 extra, plus applicable taxes, of course.

I'm from Kansas and as far as I know this is legal. Maybe that's
because I'm of legal age.

Really? "Any"? Um.

And here I thought this was a quiet list. I hesitate to ask to what use one
puts boinking gifs...

It's illegal in Kansas. I think it's encouraged in Canada. Ask the
border patrol guards next time you cross over about it. I'm sure you'll
get an enthusiastic response. They're know for having a great sense of
humor.

Yes, when they ask if you have anything to declare - tell them you only
have the Mr.Rogers Naughty Neighborhood videos...

They like that joke.

Open Letter to Gimp-Users

Okay all, I know you're out there now. I'm off to bed because it's
close to 11PM here and it's been 15hrs uptime on the Linux box. So, I'm
expecting a full mailbox in the morning with in depth discussions on
textures versus gradients, insights into writing scripts, the lot.

Ever in hope.

resize script

2001-01-09 Thread Thomas H. Kittelmann

Hey there.

I wondered if there was any script masters on the list who could help a
gimp script newbie with a (hopefully) simple task.

Since i often need to help one of my friends put a lot of pictures on the
web, i have to spend endless hours of opening picture, resizing to the
proper size and saving again. The task quickly gets rather tedious.

Therefore i would like to have a script i could call from the command
prompt with something like:

  ./resizescript sourcedir/ targetdir/ X Y

where sourcedir is a directory filled with a lot of, say 1600x1200, jpgs
and targetdir is an empty directory. The script should then use gimp to
place copies of the pics resized to XxY in targetdir

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Thomas

Thanks a lot for the quick answer. Unfortunately im working at uni where
there is no such thing as image magick installed (and convincing the sys.
adm. to change that would be hard).

So im kinda counting on Gimp i guess - thanks anyway!

In case anyone was following, I solved the problem by switching my
default color depth in XF86Config (I had 16, and went to 32 bit).
For whatever reason screenshots didn't work under 16-bit, neigther
with gimp, nor with xv.

Baloney. I take screenshots with the gimp all the time and all I use is
16-bit because of OpenGL games which require it. It must be something else,
what? I don't know.

The fact remains, though. Switching color depth solved my problem.
