Re: Scanned Image Processing
I haven't tried this, but maybe fiddling with indexed mode and limiting the number of colors would help. My experience with posterization has been that it doesn't partition the image colors the way I would. -Jeff T
Plug-ins fail ./configure
Using Gimp-1.2.0. I've been trying to upgrade my plug-ins library with kaleidoscope guash gimp-ace and running into serious problems. The configure step fails with checking for GTK - version = 1.2.7... yes checking for gimptool... /usr/local/bin/gimptool checking for GIMP - version = 1.1.24... no *** Could not run GIMP test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occured. This usually means GIMP was incorrectly installed *** or that you have moved GIMP since it was installed. In the latter case, you *** may want to edit the gimptool script: /usr/local/bin/gimptool configure: error: Cannot find GIMP: Is gimptool in path? The config.log file looks about like this: configure:1941: checking for GIMP - version = 1.1.24 configure:2026: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -I/usr/local/lib/glib/incl ude -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/X11R6/include conftest.c -L/usr/local/lib -lgimpui -lgimp -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lgtk -lgdk -rdynamic -lgmodule -lglib -ldl -lXext -lX11 -lm 15 configure:1983: parse error before `PLUG_IN_INFO' configure:1985: warning: initialization makes integer from pointer without a cast configure:1986: warning: excess elements in scalar initializer after `PLUG_IN_INFO' configure:1987: warning: excess elements in scalar initializer after `PLUG_IN_INFO' configure:1989: warning: excess elements in scalar initializer after `PLUG_IN_INFO' configure:1989: warning: data definition has no type or storage class configure: failed program was: #line 1977 "configure" #include "confdefs.h" #include stdio.h #include stdlib.h #include libgimp/gimp.h GPlugInInfo PLUG_IN_INFO = { NULL, /* init_proc */ NULL, /* quit_proc */ NULL, /* query_proc */ NULL /* run_proc */ }; Any suggestions? I must be missing something really obvious (like maybe the 1.1 plugins won't work with 1.2?) but for now it beats me what it is. TIA --Jeff T
Re: Plug-ins fail ./configure
Sorry -- Since I compiled Gimp-1.2.0 from the tarball/sources, I'm pretty sure I have all the relevant header files. Gimptool seems to know where everything is (/usr/local/...) and my path looks in that order, too. Just as another data point, the logconv plug-in compiled fine, but its configure script is really short. Any additional suggestions will be welcomed. --Jeff T
Re: animation question
Kate - I just loaded your animated gif into the Gimp (1.2). All the layers are there. Just look at the Layers Channels dialog box. You can get at each layer individually. To view a single layer, turn off (by clicking) the eye icon next to the layers you *don't* wish to see. Click on the layer name to select it as the active layer and you can then work with it. Your best sources of information are 1. Grokking the Gimp: 2. The Gimp User Manual To find them, go to the Xtns menu of the Gimp, select Web Browser, and hey presto, there are built-in links to the manual and Grokking the Gimp, along with other useful sites. Hope this helps, --Jeff T
Re: Colors
How do I change one color to another on an image? I have an image where I want to change all the purple to black.. Thanks.Cherie There are several tricks you can use. First, try select-by color. (Right click on the image, use the select menu and pick by-color). You can then click on a patch of purple and it will select *all* the same color throughout the image. You can use the Fuzziness Threshhold to decide just how close the selected colors should be to the exact one you picked. Alternatively, if you don't want to select *all* the purple in the original image, you can try the magic wand to get only the purplish pixels in a contiguous area. Or, you can play with Image-Colors-Colormap Rotation. Hope this helps, --Jeff
Re: add - subtract
I probably should have stuck with my first question that popped into my head. Simply put, does gimp do what this tutorial shows any longer? http://www.pixelfoundry.com/Tips/KPT1/KPT1.html Yes. There are some slight terminology differences between Gimp and PhotoShop, but Gimp can do it all. --Jeff
Can't run gimp-1.1.25 or better
Please help! Starting with gimp-1.1.25, and repeatable on 1.1.27, 1.1.28, etc. I cannot get the gimp to run. The configure, and make work fine, but when I start the gimp I get as far as displaying the toolbox and the levels and channels box, and then the gimp exits with the following message: LibGimp-ERROR **: could not find handler for message: 12 aborting... ** WARNING **: script-fu: wire_read: unexpected EOF I have gtk+-1.2.8, also the latest gdk libs. Should I be using gtk+-1.3, or what? All the gimps up through 1.1.24 compile and run just fine, but 1.1.25 onward give me the startup failure. Please -- does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this? System is basically RH 6.1, with the helix gnome 1.2. Thanks in advance - --Jeff Trefftzs
Gimp-1.1.28 Dies Unexpectedly
Hi, all. I just tried installing the latest gimp (1.1.28). The configure and make appeared to work just fine, but when I try to run the gimp I get the following error message: LibGimp-ERROR **: could not find handler for message: 12 aborting... app/gimp terminated: Aborted followed by [jeff@thoth gimp-1.1.27]$ ** WARNING **: script-fu: wire_read: unexpected EOF Can anyone tell me what this means, and what I should do about it? Note that the gimp starts loading properly, the splash screen comes up, the progress bar shows loading all the goodies, the toolbox and layers window get realized, and then it all vanishes with the errors above. I'm running a RedHat 6.1, upgraded with Helix-Gnome 1.2 back in June. Recently upgraded to Perl-5.6. The gimp-1.1.23 tarball still compiles, installs, and works fine, but both 1.1.28 and 1.1.27 give me the error above. Anybody have any ideas what I'm missing? Or how to track down the problem? Thanks, --Jeff
