No, that is not possibel. Even if it were, both files can be opened by *every*
other image viewing application living on my Ubuntu OS.

Surely this is not correct *nix behaviour?

[Gimp-user] unsupported file format

2013-03-07 Thread rht
>What's the output of the file command for this file?

Both files have the same characteristics (which is to be expected).

"file input_image.tiff" (and "file output_image.tif") give:
input_image.tiff TIFF image data, little-endian
output_image.tif TIFF image data, little-endian

identify gives:
input_image.tiff TIFF 3900x3900 3900x3900+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 45.66MB 0.000u
0:00.000
output_image.tif TIFF 3900x3900 3900x3900+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 45.66MB 0.000u
0:00.000

diff -s reports:
Files input_image.tiff and output_image.tif are identical

I don't think there is any doubt that if Gimp opened one it should also have
opened the other.

I don't have to. I had debian running on a n900 and installed GIMP
(2.6). It's probably a bit worse than you imagine ;)

Imagine how awkward it would be to use the current GIMP with a touch

If you and your friends are planning to create an image manipulation
application on tablets, then a copy of GIMP in its present form won't do
the trick - and we haven't got the developer resources to do something
like this.

Ryan, there are many things we should do, but the amount of things we
realistically can do is a lot smaller :)

Apple's App Store license is incompatible with the GNU GPL (all versions).
Apple would allow the license conflict but a contributor could contest it
and it would be pulled from the app store (much like what happened to VLC
for iPhone). For now a great graphics program in the App store is Art
Studio for iPad . I've got that
one and found it very easy to use knowing how to use Gimp.

Other than that, I doubt Gimp will ever come to the iOS App Store unless
Apple modifies it's terms to be GNU GPL friendly. Email Apple about it
with the request.
