[Gimp-user] Restricting tool movement along a single axis
thank you Alemelo for bringing up this topic. Let's not stick with complaints, sitting back and doing nothing. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't a complaint; I just found it strange that this basic behaviour hadn't been implemented yet. Sticking with it, I'd only need an axis lock modifier. I usually correct perspective in architectural photography. While I can easily keep the horizon, well... horizontal, the perspective always make vertical lines slope. To correct those lines I'd need to be able to select the whole image and drag the corners horizontally and not vertically. What I find annoying is that a slight vertical shift when I drag them is almost unnoticeable and after my transformation I will end up with a photograph with a slight oblique margin and I'll be forced to crop it or stretch it to fill again the layer surface. Restricting movement along the axis would cut my work because I would be sure that the image still fills the entire surface. The axis lock could override any problem concerning the point of the handle you click upon, sticking to the corner of the image for reference. This would be what in CAD software is usually called ortho mode. In later steps it could be regarded in a UI specification and become implemented. So, let's begin with the first step: Are there more GIMP users (especially some who use GIMP often) who need this? I don't need it, but I think it's a good idea. I have just encountered it with Autodesk Sketch Pro on my tablet. If you set a ruler or circle it will draw either a line parallel to the ruler or an arc with the same centre based on where you begin drawing. ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Record Actions
Good Day - I recently found GIMP and think it is amazing. I've been a PhotoShop user for years, and actually prefer GIMP. The one thing I can't seem to figure out is holding me back from using GIMP exclusively, and that is the Record Action feature. I have to manipulate about 100 pictures per day - simply resize a picture to 6x4 @ 300 dpi, save it, resize again at 100 dpi, put a 10 pixel; black border around it and save it to another directory. I can do this to a hundered picitures in about a minute with PhotoShop, but it takes quite a while with GIMP. I am no techie ... any suggestions? -- steveleach (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] pcx export
Thanks Simon, but how can I integrate this plugin? ** Jenny_222 (for...@gimpusers.com) wrote: You can fix it in the PCX plugin, where the value of 300 dpi is hardcoded. Basically the plugin needs to retrieve the relevant information from the gimp and put it into the file. The relevant code is in plug-ins/common/file-pcx.c. I hope this helps, Simon -- Jenny_222 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list

Unfortunately there is no _general_ record action feature. But for actions such as this, there is a nice plugin that works just fine. You can get the plugin BIMP here: http://www.alessandrofrancesconi.it/projects/bimp/ The first part is very easy with BIMP. The second part is also fairly easy, though a little hacky. BIMP shows up in the File menu. From there, add an action to resize to 6x4 300dpi, add images and do the export. First step done. Now create a 6x4 100dpi PNG image with a transparent background and a 10px border. Add the same images to BIMP, add an action to resize to 6x4 100dpi, and another action to add a watermark. Place the watermark in the center, and select your PNG. This seems to work from my quick testing, though I guess it would be better if BIMP itself had an add border feature. We could use predefined pointer restricting paths or easily prepare new one by preparing such path in Gimp, Inkscape or any other path creating software. Like View/Snap to active path? [Gimp-user] Toolbars seem to disappear on their own
Hello, Can someone explain to me why my toolbars keep disappearing in GIMP 2.8.2? I know how to bring them back (go into settings, set them back to defaults and restart) so I just need to know if I'm doing anything that makes them just disappear. The most obvious is pressing the TAB key. Perhaps you accidently pressed it and so they disappeared. They also return with the TAB key. If this doesn't help and it turns out to be a bug, please upgrade to the latest version, currently GIMP 2.8.6.
