[Gimp-user] Funding new features in gimp - what features would you choose?

2013-12-18 Thread josephbupe
Hi Anna,

I always find issues with the orientation of the tool options which currently
occupies too much space regardless where you dock it, simply because of its
vertical orientation. I wish we could have an option for the tool options bar to
appear right above the tool box across the screen, like in many graphics
applications.

Similarly, about the gradient tool, see this:
http://www.gimpusers.com/forums/gimp-user/16168-vertical-orientation-for-gradient-editor-toolbox#message75631

[Gimp-user] Funding new features in gimp - what features would you choose?

2013-12-18 Thread FallenLegend
Hello Anna! I do believe many people would benefit from this feature.

For example many painters use photoshop's for this very reason . In fact many
industry professionals use it as a time saver

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VX-wujJbbk. As you can see it makes the process
of shading much more simple.

Also I would like to point out that this feature is probably the main reason
people think sketchbook pro is a very versatile program

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=R_hgWfjNsPg#t=141

In that video the artist is complementing how easy is to change brush size.

So yeah I think this would be great for a lot of painters :)

Thank you for your interest :D

[Gimp-user] Vertical orientation for Gradient Editor toolbox

2013-12-18 Thread Richard
So I have a problem with using the Gradient Editor

Trying to come up with a useful way organize my toolboxes on the UI, I settled
on putting the Gradient Editor on the right half of the window, occupying the
entire column. I may rearrange things later, but for now it works . . . except
for one thing: The extremely tall aspect ratio in this configuration is a huge
waste of visual real estate, since the Gradient Editor displays the gradient in
a horizontal (left-to-right) manner.

Idea: Create an option to have the Gradient Editor flip its display vertically
(see attachment). That would put a tall aspect ratio to much better use. :)

That discussion is over like disco. The consolation prize is that in latest
versions of GIMP 2.8 if you use the wrong command the dialogue message you get
has a link to instantly switch to the correct one.

You are asking for a new feature... You have 4 ways from above that
work, and work well, you are asking for another way which you like.

Please remember Photoshop is driven by a $$$ of investment, don't
criticize a product you are getting for 'free' and comparing it against
a project driven by $$$.

"Believing" is one thing.
"Truth" is something else.
"Making it happen" is something in between...

I think there's a plug in that does this (have a look in the registry).

I have done a plug in which (among other things) allows you to select brush
size presets from a dropdown (which I find more useful):

Constructive criticism is good and productive, but titles of 'GIMP

[Gimp-user] Gimp interface sucks

2013-12-18 Thread FallenLegend
There I said it.

It's the main reason GIMP is not as succesful as it could be. Sure GIMP is very
powerful

One example of people not liking the UI is this article

http://lifehacker.com/most-popular-photoshop-alternative-gimp-1484836993

The very existance of Gimpshop pro was a testament that people don't feel akward
working with gimp and it can be a nighmare to dos something as simple as
changing the brush size...Whwn with other programs you just haver to drag a
mouse/sylus...

I am sure many open source fans will disagree with me so I will reply with any
article that complains about the user interface whenever I find one... to
counter argue.

The abillity to resize the brush just by dragging the mouse/stylus by pressing a
button.

That's it is all I ask as a painter the lack of this feauture is the reason
painting on gimp is super frustating.
