In addition to Ofnuts' excellent list, you might want to read this
page, which has longer descriptions of some of the reasons painting
on an image might not work:

Just for grins I took a copy of the sample image that was uploaded and
made the gold bits transparent. It was easy, because I selected
everything /but/ the "gold" and then inverted the selection.

Using the Select By Color tool, click once to select all the black, then
hold down the shift key to select the blue and etc.

There will be stray pixels that did not get selected, due to color
variations produced by anti-aliasing. So, zoom WAY in and start
selecting those strays with the same tool, holding the shift key down of
course, until everything you want to keep is selected. That took me a
minute or two.

Then do Select > Invert and viola, a precise selection of the "gold"
only, to do with as ye will.

To the OP, if you are having difficulties with my builds (which comes with
resynthesizer pre-installed as Rich pointed out), simply contact me at my

You would also likely be chasing a path to madness, given div's behaviors.
Unless you style them as tables. At which point, why not just use tables?

No, your screenshot is of pixls.us and a portable linux 'appimage' nothing to do
with Windows.

You need this site www.partha.com

and this installer. 64 bit windows only, If you use 32 bit Windows, look at the
video link I posted.

A snag.

Just had a closer look at Partha's Gimp 2.8.14 installation. It does have
resynthesizer installed, lots of extra plugins but **no** 'heal selection' So
either add that plugin yourself or use the regular Gimp 2.8.18 installation from
www.gimp.org and back to installing from that zip file I referenced.

Scripts go in C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\scripts

Plugins go in C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins

I hope the old tutorial you looked at was not mine from 2012.

The heal selection script - maybe called smart-remove.scm - is not the best
version to use. There is a more up-to-date python plugin.

Get a good version from

http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwti30g3/resynth_win_32_64.zip

Have a look at this video about installation in Windows 10.

https://youtu.be/RJlNmA4h6ZI 3 minutes.

Remember to remove the old files first.

An alternative is a different, complete installation of GIMP. The windows
package from Partha.com contains the plugins already installed.
