If the background is the only white in the image, you can do:

Colors > Color to alpha

That will make the white background transparent in one go.

If your foreground image does have some white in it, you can select the
white area(s), followed by Select > Invert. Then the above command will
not affect the white bits of the foreground image.

[Gimp-user] Change Brush Size - Grayed out?

The parametric brush editor is not the way to re-size a brush for use with the
clone tool in Gimp 2.8.x It is a bit of a hang-over from Gimp 2.6.

For reference, the stock brushes are not-editable. Right click on the brush,
make a copy and that copy is editable if needed .

Otherwise, using the clone tool and the small fuzzy brush,

1. Natural size of brush is 51 (25 radius)

2. Using the tool options, the size can be adjusted as required. You can also
adjust the size without re-sampling.

[Gimp-user] Change Brush Size - Grayed out?

2017-07-28 Thread cme0848
I'm trying to use the clone tool to make some touchups but can't figure out how
to change the brush size. If I double click on the brush it opens the 'Brush
Editor' and I get a dialog that shows options like Radius, Hardness, Aspect
Ratio, etc. but all of these options are disabled/grayed out. Why?

Thanks!
Craig

PS.
Yes, I've read this post about brush size in general but I don't really want to
reprogram my mouse to adjust brush size. I like the default functionality.

I would love to, but I am not a member there and I don't see anywhere to sign
up. Would you please report it or explain how to join that?

The histogram is extremely important that it updates as adjustments are made, or
else it is just guessing, undo, guess again, undo . . .

[Gimp-user] How to Select a squwed image and correct it

2017-07-28 Thread Dave_London
Hi,
I am pretty new to Gimp.

What I would like to do is take a photo with my S8 and then when I get it on my
desktop, be able to cut out the part that I want, maybe add some annotations and
save it for use on my website.

I took a photo of my friends business card as he wants to use it on his mobile
website.
The photo is not properly centered and I just want the square part - SEE
attachment.

I have tried to select the area and crop it - but I keep failing.

What would be the best way to do this ?

Many thanks for helping a newbie :)

Using Gimp 2.9.5 from the 'buntu ppa here and I can confirm that. I can not see
any setting that enables the histogram dock to update until the adjustment is
finally 'ok-ed'

If you feel so inclined report that as a bug.

In the version 2.9.5 I noticed the histogram was not updating as I was making
adjustment, like brightness/contrast, levels, etc. Is there a setting somewhere
I need to set? I remember very well in 2.8 the histogram auto updates as I make
adjustments.

[Gimp-user] Change the UI size?

Thanks, Partha! Worked like a charm! I'll take a look at this manifest file and
see if I can modify it for a couple of other programs I've run into this problem
with. Seems to be a common Surface issue.
