[Gimp-user] Arrays in Python
>AFAIK you can't, but anyway how do you expect the user to enter the >bazillion numbers? If you want that many numbers just ask for a file >name and read the file. The user already can. I wrote a custom system for making GTK configuration windows that I use with all my plugins instead of the default python-fu thing that just stacks all the widgets into a grand tower of Babel. Where the enums come into play is allowing other scripts to call this one via the PDB. Not really a problem right now since the registry's dead and therefore it won't end up in the hands of others for a while (right?). I'm just perfectionist. Guess for now I'll refactor it to make the PDB method take i32's & floats instead of arrays, and if some other weirdo wants the full horror of my plugin, they'll just have to import the class. If anyone else knows a way or has other inquiries, I'll stay subbed to this thread. >Or maybe your array can be pixels values in a layer (these are easy to >get in Python) in which case the user would just specify a second >layer. You say that, but I was entirely unable to get proper pixel info in one of my past scripts. I could get standard 8-bit info, but no 32-bit floating point info that everything apparently uses now (2.10 RC-1). Unless I'm completely missing it, the python-fu docs are patchy at best. Most of my knowledge comes from trying to interpret the auto-generated pydoc stuff, incomplete docs from like 4 years ago, or reverse engineering other over-the-top scripts like LayerFX. -- Beinsezii (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

The issue comes specifically when I try to make a path from text after setting the text onto an already existing path (the circle) and after filling the text and rotating it I am left with a feint red outline. Why is there still an outline after I try to hide the text path? Difficult to give an opinion (other than not reproducible here) without a shot of the layers dialogue. Are all layers visible? Have you tried finding the layer containing the 'ghosting' (if there is one)? Just a comment on your work flow. Path to selection, fill selection, rotate layer is one way to go, but will lead to degraded text as pixels are interpolated. screenshot 1 A better way is rotate the path, then path to selection and fill selection. screenshot 2 rich: www.gimp-forum.net Attachments: * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/865/original/01-rotate-text.jpg * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/866/original/02-rotate-text.jpg I suspect that you create the text, make a selection (alpha to selection) and then cut/paste from that. The edge pixels, being partially transparent, are only partially selected, and therefore only partially cut out, leaving some remains behind. You could avoid this by making a rough selection around the text, with some margin. The selection would include transparent pixels but then pasting transparent pixels doesn't change anything. But as Rich says, the right workflow is to use Layer>text to path, move/rotate the path, and then create a selection from the result and bucket-fill it. Re: [Gimp-user] Linux Printing workflow with color management in GIMP git
hi gabriele, color management has been a mystery on many a list. i had a discussion on the scribus list many years ago when i mentioned my solution to my color management problems. i was told i was wrong, that i needed to calibrate all of my hardware and make a profile of each. i was a photojournalist in a former life and i teach photography with emphasis on light and lighting and color temperature. when i first embarked on my color theory journey, i was designing brochures and flyers as a freelancer for a company in new orleans, la that did meeting and convention planning (as well as designing their web site). after much research and question asking, i lit upon color.org. i went there and downloaded 2 color profiles (sRGB_IEC61966-2-1_no_black_scaling and SWOP2006_Coated3v2). i later ran across a cmyk profile when i used linux and saved that profile. these color profiles have the same d50 color temp (5000k). with progress, the rgb profiles at color.org are at version 4; i have not tested these profiles. here are my hardware and software setup for my systems (win, mac and linux). i copy the two color profiles to the appropriate profile folders according to the os and set them as the default color profiles for the system. then i set the rgb and cmyk profiles as default in all of my graphic software. i also set the rgb and cmyk profiles as default to printers, scanners and other hardware attached to the system that uses color profiles. i will usually make a "straight" print to preview what changes in color, exposure, shadow, mid-tone and highlights need to be made. i have found the color does not vary much from what the thumbnail on the screen presents. i would be happy to provide these profiles to you or anyone else on the list if you send me a private email; unless, the administrators will allow the attached profiles. i would be interested to learn if your results are similar to mine. there is much more to color management that i did not say to the argument that was raised on the scribus list. i hope this helps you find your way on your journey in the land of color management. many greetings kdd On Thu, Mar 15, 2018 at 4:46 AM, Gabriele Piccini wrote: > Hi All, > I think I'm wrong when I print from GIMP because I have a very yellowish > printa very yellow color cast in neutral zones. > > I created a printer profile with ArgyllCMS and seems it works well because > if I test it with xicclu command (for who known Argyll) with neutral Lab > values I got neutral values (Lab->RGB output->Lab). > The issue arises when I print but I think to make a wrong way: > > Ok, what I did: > > I download a proof image from internet with Prophoto color profile. > > When I load in GIMP I keep ProPhoto therefore RGB device values are > ProPhoto RGB. > Then I convert the image into printer profile and I think the values are > converted to RGB values of printer profile based on Lab values of ProPhoto. > > Now I should have an image with device (printer) RGB values to send the > printer , haven't I? [Gimp-user] user feedback - tiling window managers and such
Hello! Thanks to everyone who has worked on GIMP, I've used it loads over the years, I'm currently using it to make tiles for a game similar to the 1994 game Outpost, Hope this is the right place for user feedback. I'm not a typical user - I'd prefer to spend my time in emacs, to be honest, and I still use ratpoison as my window manager. Gimp's a bit frustrating here because: 1. The default multi-window setting doesn't fail gracefully. It flickers awfully with no suggestion of how to fix it. 2. Once one gets everything working, the panels are kind of unintuitive, the arrow that points left doesn't collaps the thing, but comes up with another menu. 3. Things are generally confusing to people coming from a program like MtPaint. I wouldn't be complaining if I wasn't willing to help (though I'm only free on weekends, I have a job, yay) and I completely understand if power users take preference - I do use emacs, after all. Just thought I'd share. But #1 in particular seems like a bug, maybe not with Gimp, but somewhere. Thanks for reading! It would also help take some of the pressure (however large or small it is) off of the GIMP.org servers when using direct download, since all updates and downloads would be managed through the Microsoft Store. In addition, it will ensure that computer registries are not tampered with, keeping the computer fast. I hope we'll be able to use GIMP from the Microsoft Store soon. [Gimp-user] GIMP 2.10 RC1 , cannot merge down layer after Warp transform
Hi, Maybe this is a bug, where the warped layer discards the changed done when merging down 1. Open an Image 2. Select a rectangle region and then copy and paste as a new layer 3. Click on Tools> Transform Tools> Warp Transform 4. Do some shrinking or moving. 5. ON the Layers dock, Right click the warped layer and merge down. The layers will be merged, but whatever was changed in the warped layer will just be discarded and the original layer below will be saved. Whatever warping done is gone. I hope somebody can help me. Meanwhile I've corrected thousends of fotographs by Gimp (Vers. 2.8.14). All of these pictures are described with any foto processing program (e.g. photoshop) under the EXIF name of 'title'. If I use gimp2 the EXIF picture description got lost and instead of this I get 'x-default' as new title. If I open File>Properties I can find the my original picture description as EXIF-Dates of 'ImageDescription' and 'XPTitle'. If I save the picture I find (instead of the correct Title) always 'X-default' as the Title. Example: My foto is described by 'Railway Station' as EXIF title. In Gimp2 I find under file>properties as ImageDescription and as Title 'Railway Station' If I Export or overwrite the respective foto I get 'X-default' instead of 'Railway Station' I use the windows version 2.8.14 in German. [Gimp-user] selection(text) to path issue
every time I try to use the selection to path function; whenever I go to hide the path afterwords it still shows a feint red outline and wont go away, but if I use the selection to path just using say, a circle and hide that path, it hides it just fine. The issue comes specifically when I try to make a path from text after setting the text onto an already existing path (the circle) and after filling the text and rotating it I am left with a feint red outline. I have been using Gimp for a dozen years, always suspect myself first, always something new to learn. I can see my earlier post about vector graphics when unheeded, in this case scaling down you can get away with bitmap scaling. One day it will be tiny logo to monster logo and it will be a fuzzy mess. However. The Gimp interface contains all sorts of clues as to what is going on. A yellow dotted line is a layer boundary. Not all layers are the same size as the basic canvas size. Usually smaller but can be larger. This example (3 shots together - this mailing list format is a killer) for anything other than simple. see: https://i.imgur.com/VSh03Od.jpg 1. You opened the C-L logo using File -> Open as layers (the best way) The logo is US letter size and larger than the canvas. see the dotted line 2. That can be scaled (and moved) using the scale tool. Looks a bit odd because of the grid that is in place. 3. Applying the tool gets that new (smaller) layer. What it looks like you did. see: https://i.imgur.com/INSPaaW.jpg 1. Copied the logo, pasted into the CD template. That creates a "Floating Selection (Pasted Layer)" 2. The Floating Later can be transformed same as any other layer. Resized and moved. 3. Then it needs to be fixed. All sorts of ways, pasting another selection for example, but be in control. Use the Layer menu -> To New Layer or Layer -> Anchor layer. Anchor layer will merge with the last active layer used. 4. With a new layer the layer boundary is now dotted yellow changed from the dotted gray of the "Floating Selection". rich: www.gimp-forum.net -- rich404 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

I have some additional info: I used undo to return to where the strange animation was and now see that at the very top of the layers view it says Floating selection - Transformation. I used "open as layer" to open the logo. I see that as soon as the logo appears it has a dotted line rectangle around it's border. The dotted lines are moving around the rectangle. As soon as I choose the scale tool and scale the logo smaller the outer dotted line rectangle does not have dotted lines moving around it anymore. Instead I have a smaller dotted line rectangle around the logo border and these dotted lines are moving. This is the instant that a new layer appears at the top - Floating selection - Transformation. Then when I choose Color to alpha, this is when the animation affects the black letters of the logo Here's what my undo history says: move layer Scale to 494x605 Color to alpha later when I moved the logo with the move tool the Floating selection - Transformation layer disappeared and everything was OK -- GerryPeters (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

Width only, maybe 300 pix set to all layers. Make a narrow (say 300 pix) selection on the left side. Copy then paste to get a floating layer. Resize the floating layer with, dragging to the left. What you need is a layer mask for the background layer. see https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-layer-mask-add.html Add a white layer mask Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer mask. Anything marked white in the mask is opaque, anything black is transparent, shades of grey various transparency. The points to note are in the layer dialogue, an active layer has a white border, inactive a black border see: https://i.imgur.com/DyMjc1C.jpg Click in the layer mask to make it active. Draw across the canvas a FG/BG gradient. FG can be a dark grey BG is white. The shape (linear/circular..),start & end point, offset and direction of the gradient tool all matter and make a difference. If you do not like the result, fill with white and start again. Because of the transparency, put a white layer underneath. see: https://i.imgur.com/zOamDfl.jpg Why use a layer mask? It is non-destructive. Always a trade-off between keeping it simple and getting into more extensive and complicated procedures. In this case you need to blur just the shadow area. Working on that layer, make a selection around the shadow somehow. You can use the free select tool and carefully draw around it. Another way is use what is called the quick mask and paint the selection in. Use Select -> Toggle Quick Mask (down the bottom of the menu) That gets you a red cast over the image. Painting in White makes a selection, painting in Black removes a selection. I already had it in the project and it looked fine, but I left the white background. The Color to alpha worked great and was so quick to do. I had a feeling you'd know a less tedious way than the scissors tool. I tried to re-import the logo PDF using your methods and after I sized it with the scale tool, the black color turned into something like an animation, like black and white liquid was flowing through the logo. I've seen this before in other settings even when I was making the inner guide circle. When I colored the inner guide circle, it started doing the same animation thing. Back to the logo I used the move tool to reposition it and the animation went away and now it's solid black like it's supposed to be. Not quite sure what you mean but, If the transparent 'overlay' layer is active what ever you 'paint' is on there. That includes stroking a selection. A selection can be invoked any time. The default mode is replace. So make a selection and stroke it. Then there is a choice, the selection is still active and you can resize it by dragging the handles and stroke again, or if you have moved to another tool, go back to the elliptical select tool, make the selection, stroke it. Once the selection is stroked that is now pixels on the layer. To change that needs an erase or a new layer. How to tweak the size of the ellipse? Is that the diameter? I am trying to use GIMP (2.8.10) to make some indistinct annotations on a medieval manuscript more legible. Typical of the published images of its pages is http://ica.themorgan.org/manuscript/page/35/159535 Examples of the scrawled additions I am trying to enhance are those in brownish ink after the end of the main (blackletter) text, and across the foot of the page. So far I have tried Unsharp Mask (including varying the parameter settings); several of the colour adjustment tools (including the interesting but drastic Auto > Equalise); and Rob A's high-pass filter. All of these are some help, but I'm still looking for something better - and as a relatively inexperienced Gimp user, I'm concerned that I don't have a good enough understanding of the problem to pick the right tools. Can anyone help, please? I would be really grateful for any and all suggestions. I do not think there are any "right tools" for this. Experimenting as you have done, is a good way to learn about Gimp. If the same as I downloaded (about 400 x 600 pix) then really..a bit too small. You could try: 1. Select the areas required. I used quick mask but freeselect in add mode works as well. see screenshot 1 2. With the selection active (toggle quickmask off) use the gmic plugin www.gmic.eu and the repair scanned documents filter. Output typical settings and output mode shown screenshot 2 3. Gives this with when selection is turned off screenshot 3 4. Put the new layer into Multiply mode to merge, gives as screenshot 4 but back to small image size and pixel sized graphics. [Gimp-user] Precompiled GIMP on macOS does not recognize plugins
I am attempting to install the Resynthesizer plugin for GIMP on macOS 10.11.6. I installed GIMP 2.8.22 using Homebrew Cask https://github.com/caskroom/homebrew-cask/blob/master/Casks/gimp.rb and downloaded the Resynthesizer plugin version 1.0 from http://registry.gimp.org/node/27986 According to Preferences > Folders, the following directories are used for plug-ins /Users/raxod502/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.8/plug-ins /Applications/GIMP.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins The contents of the former are Permissions Size User Date Modified Name .rw-r--r--@ 6.6k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-heal-selection.py .rw-r--r--@ 3.2k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-heal-transparency.py .rw-r--r--@ 17k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-map-style.py .rw-r--r--@ 7.7k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-render-texture.py .rw-r--r--@ 3.3k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-resynth-enlarge.py .rw-r--r--@ 3.6k raxod502 15 Apr 2011 plugin-resynth-fill-pattern.py .rw-r--r--@ 3.3k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-resynth-sharpen.py .rw-r--r--@ 6.0k raxod502 13 Apr 2011 plugin-uncrop.py .rwxr-xr-x@ 62k raxod502 15 Apr 2011 resynthesizer .rwxr-xr-x@ 53k raxod502 15 Apr 2011 resynthesizer-gui On restarting GIMP, I believe there should be a menu entry Filter > Enhance > Heal selection (among others), but there is no such item. Furthermore, I get no results from Help > Plug-In Browser when searching for either "heal" or "resynthesizer". Have I misunderstood how to install plugins? Is there some kind of compilation step? Any way I can debug the situation? -- raxod502 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] How to print GIMP from git
Hi All, I created a custom ICC profile and I get wrong color when printing.. I think to made profile correctly but I'm not sure to make printing process well. In Gimp there is not option to ICC profile when printing, isn't? Hence what I made is: -I opened the image ( Prophoto profile) - Converted to printer profile -Printed Is this workflow right or I have to do other things? In this way the color in output are wrong, but if the workflow is right I have to review my ICC profile..
