There's something for that. Documentation. A half page should be
enough to deploy a news reader. =8~)

The reader I use is almost trivial to configure and use. Meanwhile
the browser wallows in JavaScript. =8~/

> ... and what Usenet even is).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet

Incidentally, the source of the news module here is 46 kB. Depending
upon font size, roughly 30 pages of readily digestible code. Object
file is 65 kB.

In Debian 11, i386, Firefox-esr, installed size is 227 MB. That's
roughly 3500 times the size of the object file noted above!

Is any technology less efficient than a contemporary commercial
computing system?

Churn.

Newly minted managers pushing their newly minted engineers to do something
they can check off on their to-do lists, because the newly minted teachers
in the education system never gave them time to actually understand what
they were doing, and instead taught them that was how to make the grade.

And I'm already off-topic, but we have to let the engineers and managers
learn what they're doing somewhere, so we put up with the churn in the
industry. And sometimes useful stuff falls out and sometimes useless stuff
fails to get lopped off. Situation normal.

Churn.

Well, if you are on a public computer you don't want to leave anything
logged in because the next user could impersonate you?

Alternatively, if there's no need to ever log out, then just don't provide
the means, anywhere, to do so. But that doesn't sound exactly right. :)

I see that the plan is to go to yet another web based mess. I don't care for

Subject: [Gimp-user] Trouble Importing DNG files

Folks:

I have tried to import DNG files from my iPhone 14 and I get an error
message each time:

Calling error for procedure ‘gimp-file-load’:
Error opening file ‘C”
\users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\gimp\2.10\gimp-temp-434241.exr’ for
reading

And:

Opening . . . failed:

Raw Adobe DNG Digital Negative plug-in could not open image

I have tried with both RawTherapy and DarkTable.

I AM able to open these files using Microsoft Photos and ACDSEE.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Found it. Thx.

In most authenticated interfaces "logout" is directly visible or one

Yeah, it's a bit hidden, I agree.

1) On the top-right, there is an icon representing your account (it's
either a profile picture if you set one, or I believe by default, it's the
first letter of your account name). Click it.
2) It pops up some popover dialog, with 4 top icons. The rightest icon is
like some kind of "person". Click the person icon.
3) The menu shown below will have a "Log Out" item.

[Gimp-user] Announcement: this mailing list will be retired by the end of Oct 2022

2022-10-20 Thread Andrea Veri
Hi,

As we have been communicating during the past few months GNOME's Mailman
platform is being decommissioned (python2 deprecation, major burden in
managing lists spam). The deadline is currently set to the end of October
2022. Mailing list subscribers are invited to migrate to GNOME's Discourse
instance [1]. Neil made sure [2] to create a set of tags you can re-use to
initiate a new topic in the new platform, if a tag is missing please reach
out to me directly.

Jehan (from the GIMP Team) kindly provided some instructions you can follow
[3] in order to safely migrate your reading workflow to Discourse. The new
platform supports several login methods including your GNOME Account and
other major OpenID providers.

After the deadline of the end of October Mailman archives will remain alive
in read only mode for posterity. If the mailing list was used behind an
alias, please let me know so we can re-do the same setup but on Discourse
instead.

Thanks,

P.S All the l10n lists are still pending code changes in damned-lies, the
deadline to decommission those lists may slip by a week or two depending
how soon those changes will be made available in DL codebase
